With utilities being the largest controllable cost for multifamily properties, property owners and managers are recognizing the value of energy efficiency improvements, or energy management opportunities (EMOs).Energy improvements save money and stabilize cash flow. These savings can be used to reinvest in the property or mitigate rent increases. For tenant metered properties, tenants can save directly. These savings help to reduce vacancy rates and lower tenant turnover.

Energy efficient properties have a higher market value and they can better position a property for recapitilization in the future.

Energy efficiency creates spurred economic activity and lower carbon emissions that serve the community at large. With so many positive impacts for owners, tenants and beyond, the only question remains: what are you waiting for?

The Energy Efficiency for Affordable Housing program is a collaborative, utility-sponsored energy efficiency program serving income-qualified, multifamily dwellings in Iowa. These dwellings include transitional housing, shelters, Section-8 housing and other forms of long-term, affordable housing properties.

This program helps multifamily properties lower operating costs and reduce tenant energy bills through energy efficiency improvements. Eligible customers served by Alliant Energy, Black Hills Energy, and MidAmerican Energy Company may receive:
