Mick Harris is the Founder of EnviroGroup and a pioneer and a leader in the fields of sustainable

technology and energy efficiency. His advice is sought after and well regarded throughout the

industry. Over the span of his career Mick has taken on many roles such as energy conservation

consultant, researcher and environmental educator. He has forged valuable relationships with

international technology suppliers as well as Victorian communities and is passionate about the

environment and helping clients achieve their energy goals. Mick is a Director of the International

Projects Group of ATA (Alternative Technology Association) which has installed more than 40

stand alone photovoltaic systems in East Timor.

Mick Harris is an accomplished author and publisher of solar technology and sustainable living

books and magazines.

EXQUISINE PTY LTD, THORNBURY 320 PANEL 80KW PV SYSTEMExquisine Pty Ltd is a multi-award winning food manufacturer which produces high quality dairy desserts in Thornbury, Victoria.

The factory has large north facing roof space which made solar an ideal solution to their daytime peak energy consumption.

EnviroGroup was commissioned by Exquisine to install an 80kW solar PV system. This project received funding through the

carbon price funded Clean Technology Food and Foundries Program. EnviroGroup worked extensively with Exquisine preparing an

energy audit and CTIP grant application, which was approved in mid 2013.

The array is expected to generate 107,450 kilowatt-hours across the year, or approximately 300 kilowatt-hours per day. The system

will offset a significant portion of the company’s electricity usage; which along with other energy efficiency works – including

lighting retrofit – is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 176.6 tonnes of CO2 every year.

Extensive planning, project management skills and excellent communication ensured that the system was installed two weeks

ahead of schedule. Exquisine were extremely pleased with EnviroGroup’s expertise and professionalism in designing, installing

and commissioning this solar PV system.

MONASH UNIVERSITY, PENINSULA CAMPUS, FRANKSTON 540 PANEL 135 KW PV SYSTEMAs one of the world’s leading universities, Monash is dedicated

to reducing its environmental footprint and have invested

significant resources into improving the overall sustainability

through a mixture of energy efficiency, behavioural change and

renewable energy installations.

EnviroGroup was engaged by Monash University to install a

massive 135kW solar PV system on their Peninsula Campus

Library in Frankston, Victoria. The layout of the PV system

was designed to minimize shading and maximize production

throughout the whole year.

One of the challenges faced on this project was to install the

system during the university’s holiday period – EnviroGroup

had to complete the project in 30 days. Precise project

planning and management processes were employed to fulfil

all project requirements on time. EnviroGroup successfully

completed the project in mid July 2013 – ahead of schedule.

This installation produces approximately 170 MWh of

electricity each year, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from

the university by approximately 220 tonnes of CO2 equivalent

per year. It is one of Victoria’s largest solar PV installations

and is the largest PV system connected to the United Energy

distribution network.

BALGOWNIE ESTATE, BENDIGO 360 PANEL 90KW PV SYSTEMEstablished by legendary winemaker Stuart Anderson in

1969, Balgownie Estate is located in Victoria’s goldfields wine

growing region near Bendigo. Balgownie Estate is a serious

red wine producer and has lead a key role in the rebirth of the

Victorian wine industry.

In 2012, EnviroGroup assisted Balgownie Estate with a Clean

Technology Investment Program Grant submission. This

submission was a success and Balgownie Estate was the

recipient of grant fund that led to the design and installation of

its impressive 90kW Solar Power System.

This installation incorporates an innovative ground mounting

solution to achieve optimal solar generation elevation at an

economic cost. This Solar Power project was completed in

June 2013 using premium components and was installed by

EnviroGroup’s expert team of solar installers.

FRANKSTON CITY COUNCIL, FRANKSTON SOLAR HOT WATERIn July 2013, EnviroGroup completed the installation of 11 solar hot water systems at a number of community facilities owned by

Frankston City Council as part of the Solar Hot Water for Frankston City Council Project. To fund the project the Council received

assistance from the Commonwealth Government’s Local Government Energy Efficiency Program (LGEEP).

Apricus, Rheem/Edwards and Dux hot water systems were installed to replace existing inefficient hot water units at sports clubs

and community centres. Combined, these solar hot water systems are projected to save approximately 25 tonnes of greenhouse

gas emissions from being released each year.
