themed:“TherapeuticEndoscopyintheGlobalWorld”.Thisliveworkshop

that has been conducted since 1993 has been the hallmark of the

Gastroenterology Unit of the Department of Medicine and one of the

premier Continuing Professional Development programs conducted at

our University. Attracting world renowned endocscopic specialists and

researchers from around the world, this workshop is unique in that it

provideslocalandregionalpractitionersaccesstothelatestendoscopic

theoriesandpractices.

In the era of minimally invasive therapies and pressure to minimise

duration of hospital stay, it is crucial that practitioners are continually

all delegates to ENDOSCOPY2014. This liveG.I. endoscopyworkshop

conducted at the prestigious University Malaya Medical Centre has

been a proud tradition of theMSGH for the last decade, forming one

of the main educational activities conducted by the Society. Through

this annual endoscopyworkshop, TheMSGH continues to cater for its

multi-disciplinary members, consisting largely of Gastroenterologists,

General / Gastrointestinal Surgeons and GI assistants from the allied

healthcareprofessionalgroup.ThefieldofGIendoscopycontinuestobe

practisedbybothSurgeonsandmedicalGastroenterologistsinMalaysia,

ProfessorGinsbergmarriedhiswife,Janeon3rdofSep1988andisblessedwith4daughters.Hiscareerpathinendoscopywasverymuchcraftedsinceyoung.Hisfather,whowasalsoagastroenterologist,lovedtorecordhisendoscopyworkusingthesamevideocamerathathewouldusetofilmbirthdaypartiesand family eventswithout switching the film.So, to his family,watching the “boring”homemovieswouldintermittentlybringoutsomeofthe“career-inspiring&beautiful”endoscopicvideosuchas torrentialbleedingpepticulcer, fungatinggastriccancer,obstructivecolonic tumour,colonoscopywithfecalloadingduetopoorbowelpreparationandetc.Itisthennotsurprisingthatheprettymuchmadeuphismindtogointogastroenterologyasyoungasasixthgrader.Afieldhethoughtwouldoffertheidealblendofcognitiveandproceduralchallenges.Andtimehasproventhatthedecisionhemade40yearsagowasthecorrectone.
