It started with one girl’s life...

Increasing self-reliance, security and independenceProviding housing solutions for survivors of abuse Improving quality of life and overall well-being

The Advocates was founded in 1991 to support a teen victim of sexual abuse. Due to intervention by a group of caring people, this young woman’s future was changed. She received support, healed, and moved on to build a successful life. For 27 years, The Advocates has been here for people in crisis. Today we are looking forward to thefuture and towards creating a community where everyone has a safe place to call home.

Ending the cycle of violence through independent, safe housing

Families are waiting several months for permanent housing solutions. Support our vision of a compassionate community free from emotional and physical abuse by increasing affordable, safe housing options.

Lives are transformed when safe, stable housing is main-tained, yet there is a housing shortage in our community. Many families are waiting for 9-12 months for a solution. Safe Housing First reflects the integrity and values of the Wood River Valley and will provide 18 units of housing. Our friends, cowork-ers, neighbors, and employees can transition out of abusive relationships and gain stability, autonomy and self-reliance. The Advocates is also expanding space for client services and prevention programs to better serve our community.

Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness for women and children. The Advocates is building safe, afford-able transitional homes to bridge the gap from abuse to inde-pendence. Access to housing will enable survivors to leave abusive homes and remain in their jobs and schools, and con-tinue their lives in our community. Help them call The Wood River Valley home.

The Advocates is the only provider of safe housing for abuse survivors in the Wood River Valley and has 26 years of experi-ence doing so, including two years running a transitional housing apartment building. The organization is a leader in its field with the breadth and depth of direct client and preven-tion services unprecedented in Idaho and the nation. The Advocates is well positioned to address these vital housing needs and provide a brighter future for local families.
