WHAT: #ENDhatelaws TOWN HALLWHERE: 87 Gerrard Street East, Eric Palin Hall 222, Ryerson UniversityWHEN:
6:00 - 8:30PM
The first TOWN HALL for #ENDhatelaws will be an opportunity for Toronto'sLGBTQ community to come together and start to build a national movement toaddress the homophobia and transphobia that is creating fear for many LGBTQpeople across the globe. The list continues to grow with hateful laws beingpassed or resurrected that deny LGBTQ people human rights.
Uganda, Russia, Nigeria, India...the list is long with 83 countries now that havelaws on their books that allow for fines and even execution of LGBTQ people.
#ENDhatelaws is comprised of seasoned activists and people who are new tothis; Many of us united under #TOwithRUSSIA, a group that focused on Putin’s
Russia and the recent laws against the human rights of the LGBTQ community. And what will unite us is our smarts, concern and compassion rights. for LGBTQpeople across the globe.
This group #ENDhatelaws is where we will plan, organize and share actions andinsights to inform and mobilize; we will strategize on how to connect toindividuals and organizations across the country and reach out in solidarity toLGBTQ people who are living under regressive laws. #ENDhatelaws will findways to work with them to effect change.
This is big and this will be important. #ENDhatelaws works together to connectour city, our province and our country to the plight of LGBT communities acrossthe globe and we believe we can make things change together.
This is an accessible venue and ASL interpretation is provided.
