FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, March 7, 2014 WHAT: #ENDhatelaws TOWN HALL WHERE: 87 Gerrard Street East, Eric Palin Hall 222, Ryerson University WHEN: 6:00 - 8:30PM The first TOWN HALL for #ENDhatelaws will be an opportunity for Toronto's LGBTQ community to come together and start to build a national movement to address the homophobia and transphobia that is creating fear for many LGBTQ people across the globe. The list continues to grow with hateful laws being passed or resurrected that deny LGBTQ people human rights. Uganda, Russia, Nigeria, India...the list is long with 83 countries now that have laws on their books that allow for fines and even execution of LGBTQ people. #ENDhatelaws is comprised of seasoned activists and people who are new to this; Many of us united under #TOw ithRUSSIA, a group that focused on Putin’s Russia and the recent laws against the human rights of the LGBTQ community.  And wha t will uni te us is o ur smarts, concern and compassi on right s. for LGB TQ people across the globe. This group #ENDhatelaws  is where we will plan, organize and share actions and insights to inform and mobilize; we will strategize on how to connect to individuals and organizations across the country and reach out in solidarity to LGBTQ people who are living under regressive laws. #ENDhatelaws will find ways to work with them to effect change. This is big and this will be important . #ENDhatelaws works together to connect our city, our province and our country to the plight of LGBT communities across the globe and we believe we can make things change together.
