• There aren’t many white lions today.• The dangers for these animals are:
- people kill them - they can’t find food
The White lion
The Rhino
Both black and white rhinos are grey. They are
not different in colour but in lip shape, based on
what they eat.
The Rhino
Females have a baby rhino (calf) only every two
and a half to five years. Their calf lives with its
mother until it is about three years old.
The Rhino
White rhinos have two horns. Rhino horns can
grow up to 1.5 metres long. Females use their
horns to protect their young, while males use
them to attack their enemies.
The Rhino
Many rhinos are killed for their horn. It is used to make medicines in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The horn is also used as decoration in North Africa and the Middle East.
The Rhino
The main problem of the white rhino today is
poaching. Only about 11,000 white rhinos
survive in the wild, and many organisations are
working to protect this much loved animal.
The Tiger
The tiger is the largest wild cat in the
world. Its skin is reddish-orange with dark
stripes.
The Tiger
Tigers live in tropical forests as well as in
swamps. They are never found far from
water.
The Tiger
Tigers eat small animals such as turtles
and frogs, as well as large animals such
as buffalos and large deer.
The Tiger
Tigers live alone, except for mothers and
their young. A female tiger can have from
1 – 6 babies. She raises them on her own.
The Tiger
By the time tiger babies are one year old
they can hunt, but they usually stay with
their mothers until they are at least two
years old.
The Tiger
The tiger’s habitat is becoming smaller
and smaller, because people use the land
for farming and they destroy the forests.
