Some Fall 2009 Lessons

• The Greatest Commandments (love God and love neighbors) are a summary of the Ten Commandments.

• God loves first: The Israelites loved God because he freed them from slavery. We love God because he died on the cross for us.

• We love God by following the Ten Commandments and loving one another as he loved us.

Some Winter 2009-2010 Lessons• The early Church was very similar to today’s Church in many ways.

• The Church defended its beliefs by establishing the Biblical canon, through the writings of the Fathers of the Church, Ecumenical Councils, and the Creed.

• Thanksgiving (the holiday) is similar to the Eucharist, which means “thanksgiving.”

• The Church was divided during the 1054 schism, the Great Schism, and the Protestant Reformation.

• St. Pius X encouraged people to receive the Eucharist daily and lowered the age of 1st communion to 7.

• The Church went through many changes after Vatican II.

• The Church is the Body of Christ, the Temple of the Holy Spirit, and the People of God.
