TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents & Families, I have to begin this newsletter by telling you how SPECTACULAR our Yarra Glen team of students were at STATE SCHOOL’S SPECTACULAR! They were amazing! The event was outstanding. I was very lucky to have some terrific seats for this event at the matinee on Saturday. Congratulations to our happy and resilient students who worked extremely hard with rehearsal on Thursday and Friday followed by two performances on Saturday. There were some tired looking students on Monday. Congratulations to Tahlee Ferguson, Estelle Peterson, Braden Kellett, Sean O’Connor, Makayla Lovelace, Poppy Rayner, Aleshia Gilchrist, Kara Oakley Smith, Sophie Mason, Jayde Spence, Sophia Clune, Isabella Anderson, Ellie Jo Lovelace, Greta Basich, Paris McMurray, Isabella Murray and Georgia Nettlefold. Great work! Many many thanks to Mrs Thorne for giving up her own time and taking our team to rehearsals and encouraging them to keep to their commitment. Well done Mrs Thorne! We very much appreciate you. Congratulations to our netball team who made it to the finals and won. That’s a great achievement in itself. Well done! REMEMBER that TERM 4 is a Sunsmart term. Don’t forget to bring and wear your hats at all times outside. Active After School Care notes are due tomorrow. These were the green notes that went home last week. Please return if you would like your child to attend Active After School Care next term. Thank you for your support. Our Canberra Camp for grade 5-6 is in the first week of Term 4. The students and teachers will be leaving at 7am sharp from our school. Everyone needs to be packed and ready to go and enjoy a fabulous camp in Canberra. Have a great time everyone! I’ll be there to wave you goodbye. Continued over….

The Department of Education has asked that all schools have a process in place for confirming student absences. You may have received a note asking about your child’s unexplained absences. Please ensure the note is returned. If we do not receive a note from you, the absence must be recorded as ‘unexplained’ and followed up by the notes previously discussed. The Department of Education has instructed that schools follow up on students with high absences and/or constant absences that are unexplained. Please remember that ‘every day counts’ at school. Coming late and missing days makes students become disconnected and they literally miss out on not only their academic work but the social group as well. Obviously, if your child is sick and infectious, then of course they will need to be looked after at home as that is the best place for a sick child. Well, that’s it for Term 3! Have a wonderful happy and safe holiday. Spend time with your loved ones, relax and enjoy. Recharge the batteries for a great Term 4 commencing Monday October 6th . Regards Sue Di Giacomo Principal

Mike's Minute: [Glen] youth group finished term 3 last week with the big Billy Cart Race. This was a great celebration of a term long project that included many of our grade 5 and 6 students, and some very capable tradesman from the Yarra Glen and Districts Men's Shed, working together to build the most amazing billy carts, and then ultimately racing them at the Yarra Valley Racing Centre last Friday. One of the youth leaders, Andrew Marshall, designed the carts, the men’s shed guys did much of the fabrication, but then worked with the [Glen] kids to assemble, design a paint scheme and then paint the finished product. Some children used hand tools for the first time. It was great to see the intergenerational interaction, to see the older guys really enthusiastic for the project and to see them at the race to support the kids. And, the kids had a ball!!!! Maybe there I an opportunity this holidays to get out in the shed and teach your young ones some practical skills they haven't experienced, to share stories, maybe even of billy carts you had as a child, and to just spend quality time learning from each other. Whatever you do, I hope you all have a great break. See you next term, cheers, Mike Mike Baimbridge is our school chaplain and can be contacted through our office or on 0408143969

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST
My dad had an AWSOME time because he liked to talk to new friends and his old friends. When my dad looked at the gifts that I
made for him he was AMAZED!!! By Sienna
When it was father’s day breakfast I got to prepare the food for my dad. It was fun. My dad loved it. I had heaps of fun and I am very lucky because dad drove from Chelsea to Yarra Glen to be with me. By Laura Last Friday we had father’s day
breakfast and the dads were waiting for breakfast. I got all the food for Chris. I got toast and Juice. Molly and Erin did not get anything. Chris thought it was great! By Ethan
Father’s day breakfast was the best breakfast I have ever had in my life. My dad loved it but he had to go to work. But I will see him tonight. It was fun when they did the raffle because when Ms Willison called Violet to give it a go, she pulled her dad’s raffle ticket out. Her das was surprised but the winner was Koby’s dad. My dad had fun. By Campbell I did not have my dad. I had my cousin
because my dad was in Queensland and my grandpa was sick. My cousin left early because he had to go to school which was bad but I still had fun. By Liam
On father’s day breakfast there was a raffle. I did not win but I did not care. I still loved it. I made my own breakfast and my dad’s. By Madison
