mprovement of air quality is one of the key concerns to sustainable development worldwide. As strict environmental regulations are being enacted to
protect the public and minimize harmful atmospheric emissions, our clients look to our business partner to develop solutions that meet regulatory compliance and allow them to operate cost effectively in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner.
I
Enclosed Flare Incineration TechnologyUnique Design
The proprietary gas burner control creates a high velocity vortex. The waste and fuel gas streams enter the incinerator through nozzles designed to alter the direction of the flows in such a way as to create a high energy vortex. The efficient mixing results in a highly efficient use of fuel, air and hydrocarbon which results in elevated combustion temperatures.
The natural draft system avoids potential downtime that is often associated with assisted air and waste intakes systems such as blowers and fans. Air is naturally drawn into the combustion zone as the flow of waste/fuel gas increases and, conversely, air flow reduces as the flow of fuel/waste gas lowers.
Refractory LiningQuestor incinerators are refractory lined which retains heat and minimizes losses from combustion to stack exit.
Low level ground heat radiation allows for facility integration as well as ensuring the safety of personnel.
No visible flame
Not effected by liquid droplet size
High temperatures efficiently burn rich gas. Air pre-mixed with the waste gas prior to combustion
Combustion occurs in a closed chamber unaffected by winds
Measured independently at 99.99% consistently
Enclosed Flare IncinerationTraditional Flare
Visible Flame
Entrained liquid droplets decrease combustion efficiency
Difficulty burning rich gases often producing soot deposits and black
smoke (BTEX, VOC, PAH)
Heavily influenced by crosswinds allowing gases to escape unburned
Difficult to measure efficiency and varies from site to site

Environmental Impact>> 99.99 % eciency The enclosed are incinerators have been indepen-dently tested and veried that they combust waste gas streams at an eciency rate of >99.99% thereby converting waste streams to less hazard-ous and manageable emissions, such as carbon dioxide, water vapour and sulfur dioxide.
The incinerators operate with no visible ame, smoke or odour and will ensure the safe combus-tion of the waste stream for not only the public and but also for project personnel.
Many of our clients including Shell, Vaquero, Dominion Exploration and others have demon-strated that our incineration units reach a true com-bustion eciency of >99.9% (including combust-ing H2S to SO2). Vaquero conducted extensive testing analyzing the components up to C30+ with results indicating >99.9% combustion eciency of heavier hydro-carbons.
NO ame, NO smoke, NO odorWe have designed the incinerators to operate with no visible ame, odors or black smoke which is often present in other, less ecient combustion systems. The incinerators are often deployed in areas where there is the potential for resident concerns (forests, housing, populations, etc.). QTI’s proprietary combustion technology safely and reliably addresses issues relating to visibility, odors, air quality and compliance.

“True combustion eciency of >99.9% when combusting H2S to SO2”
Emissions dispersion plume
The plume created by SO2 emissions is optimally dispersed through optimum velocity and tempera-ture. At the exit of the stack the resultant gases from combustion continue to rise in a vortices motion. The emission dispersion will take place at a higher vertical distance from the exit of the incinerator.
Independent tests show the plume rise of over 250 meters.

H2S expertiseQuestor is recognized for its particular expertise in the combustion of sour gas (H2S). In today’s environment of increasing regulation to protect air quality and address the public’s concerns relating to climate change and global warming, Questor’s product oerings are well positioned.
H2S is a toxic gas that can aect dierent systems in the body, rst to be aected being the eyes followed by olfactory system.
Natural gas in its raw form can be composed of various hydrocarbons, but also unwanted com-pounds as H2S. For natural gas containing H2S to be commercially accepted has to be removed due to high toxicity associated with H2S. After the treat-ment of the natural gas to remove H2S, there are resultant gases with traces of H2S that need to be disposed.
Many of our clients including Shell, ExxonMobil Vaquero, Dominion Exploration and others have demonstrated that our incineration units reach a true combustion eciency of >99.9% when com-busting H2S to SO2.
Project References: Dominion Exploration : 75% H2S and 25% CO2 Grimes Energy : 65 % H2S Nexen Calgary : 34 % H2S Compton Clayhurst : 20% H2S / 60% CO2 Sinopec China : 18% H2S and 10% CO2
Nexen Inc has employed several of our incinerator units for use within the City of Calgary on the 34% H2S wells with the acceptance and support of the surrounding community and the regulatory bodies.
FPSO Waste gas CombustionEnclosed Flare Incineration Technology >> Marine Environmental Design <<
Main advantages over open are: No need for angled constructions No need for wind shield No need for high mounted structures No thermal radiation/heat shield problems
The current design ensures compatibility with a marine environment including coatings and corrosion resistant materials.Structural provisions are also incorporated to ensure that the incinerator will be adequately anchored and of sucient strength to withstand the anticipated forces resulting from the oshore environment. In order to ensure the enclosed are incinerator package would be suitable for the marine environment, we have developed supplemental design solutions for units to mitigate corrosion on areas not adequately protected against marine conditions.

Close Spacing The incineration units are equipped with a number of safeguards that prevent any communication between the internal incinerator process and the environment external to the incinerator. It is these features that allow the incinerator to be placed immediately adjacent to the other process equipment.
The continuous pilot is ash arrested with the same type used on reboilers or line heaters, so that there is no possibility of igniting any combustible vapors outside of the incinerator. The waste gas stream is protected with rated ame arrestor which also prevents the possibility of any ash back on the waste stream extending outside of the unit.
Low heat content gasIt is a proven technology in saving clients’ money by the use of optimal volumes of fuel for cases where the gas composition has a low heat value.
Waste streams and fuel gas are not premixed inside the units. Instead they are introduced into the incinerator through their own piping and manifold system. By doing so, the gas ows in pipe that is appropriately sized for the rates and then mixed inside the combustion chamber in a vortex manner which promotes ecient and orderly mixing. This minimizes fuel consumption. A comparison with a conventional open are shows that ecient use of the fuel can save up to 80% in fuel usage.
Dehydration unitsThe safeguards which allow the unit to be placed close to other equipment and expertise in handling low heat content gas facilitate the use fo the units in dehydration processes for BTEX destruction resulted from glycol dehydration.
The units are eciently handling the water vapors eliminating costly treatment of the water vapors contaminated with pollutants.

Heat Recovery and Power GenerationThe incineration units can be equipped with a heat exchanger creating the possibility for capturing the heat and transform it into power. The units can produce in adequate conditions power order of 3.5 MW.
The heat resulted from dierent waste gas combustion can be eectively used to treat waste water. Waste water is passed rst through heat exchanger and
fed to the incineration. This process eliminates trucking and disposal.
