Women's WCh. G7: Long fight, but no winner3/11/2016 – Possibly the most apt description of the seventh game w as a mutual

wa r of attrition. For the third time an Open Spanish wa s the ba ttlefield of choice, and the p reparation of both players w as suitably deep. A very long fight ensued inwhich chances appea red for both sides, but nothing decisive, and after 81 movesthey called it a day. Report w ith analysis by GM Mikhalchishin. [Discuss]

Women's WCh. G6: Hou has two-point lead3/9/2016 – The game started w ith Muzychuk on the w hite side of a Giuoco Piano, inwhich she seemed to have the clear upperhand, and her fans rubbed their hands inthe hope s of an equ alizing result. Things got complicated and the n dow nright uglyas he r knight found itself stranded on the rim, and Hou Yifan flipped the tables for abig w in. Report with GM annotations. [Discuss]

I thought that match wo uld be a piece of cake for Yifan, wha t is wrong w ith her?? yes she is 2points ahead but still not showing her best at all!

12. cxd5!? looks to g ive white a chance to attack.

If 12. - exd5 then white w ill have two files unde r control and if 12. - Bxd5 then the c7 pa wn willfall.

@algorithmy, I thought so too, but it seems that Mariya adapted to Yifan and got a lot betternear the e nd of the match. Anyways, she's doing bette r than Humpy and Anna.

@algorithmy there is nothing w rong w ith her. this is a w orld championship match and he roppon ent is sufficiently strong to put up a g ood fight.

Agreed. She's 1/2 a point aw ay from victory with 2 games to go. It doesn't get much betterthan in a WC match.

Hou is playing with reduced po we r ... and I understa nd it.

- - - - - - -

The FIDE should stop to organize "world championship" tournaments which do not deserve

this classification.

Lets be realistic:The wc title from Muzychuk was no t a REAL wc title. And she is (at this moment) not at a level to hold theREAL wc title.

We s hould congratulate Mariya to put a goo d fight. Before the WC , I expected Yifan wouldcrash her in 7 or 8 g ames. Mariya made it a close conte st. Her preparation is really good an dshe is s till improving. This match would g ive her a b ig boost of confidence. I expected thatMariya would be a main woman challenger to Yifan in the years to come. Watch out, Yifan!

"Hou is playing with reduced po wer ... and I understan d it."

Wha t a ridiculous thing to sa y, I can sa y the same thing ab out Anand playing in Gibraltor, canI?Hou lost badly when she was given a chance in Tata Steel, she was playing with a reduced

power there a lso??

She is nowhere in control, in fact she was a better player a year ago, when she was winning everything.Nowadays she loses also.

It would be a tall order for Mariya to even w in a single game from Hou Yifan in the remaining 2games. Hou Yifan's w orld championship record (not counting the Fide KO) now stood at 9 w insand 14 draws with 0 lost.

In the first picture Yifan Hou is sitting in a very different so rt of chair. She w as d ressed veryfashionably too. Although this is not related to the ga mes I'm surprised the a rticle didn'tmention this change in marketing, she did it well.
