Overview SHEV1.1 SHEVs tasks
Without SHEV
With SHEV
1. phase• Removal of smoke
• Removal of heat fire
gases
2. phase• Building a ,,smoke-free“ layer for
the emergency exit
• Reduce the temperatures in the
roof area
• Keep a smoke-less layer above
the floor
• Reduce the horizontal
propagation of fire
3. phase• Active rescue / personal
protection (clear view for fleeing
people)
• Reduction of fire damage
reduce (Reduce the danger of a
collapse)
• Easier fire-fighting (fire
becomes visible)

What means RWA and SHEV?
RWA = Smoke and Heat Extraction Systems = is a security unit for fire
prevention.
RWA systems consists of at least the following:
The opening system – e.g. a SHEV
The emergency power unit
RWA switch
An automatic trigger, e.g. a smoke detector
Additional components are optionally also available
SHEV = natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators = The ‘SHEV’ is the result
of standard DIN EN 12101-2 which applies to the entire European Economic
Area. The SHEV is a regulated product for naturally active smoke and heat
extraction in the event of fire.

Where must a SHEV according to EN 12101-2 be installed?
when a smoke extraction is demanded by the building code-juridically
If demanded by building authorities in the fire prevention draught within the scope of
a planning permission
Always when the SHEV is explicitly demanded

Construction Products Directive (CPD)
This Building Products Guideline is part of the EU-regulations, which the member
states should include in their own regulations. The member states are commit to
ensure the free movement of goods on basis of the Building Products Guideline.
There are essential requirement defined, which should be fulfilled by buildings.
Will be replaced by Building Products Regulation 305/2011: valid and mandatory
from 01.07.2013 on for producer in the EU.

Other countries
EN 12101-2 is an European Standard.
It depends on the regulations for buildings in each country, if products according to
this Standard (SHEVs) are mandatory.

Overview SHEV2.3 Testing and design standards
EN 12101-2 Test requirements
Smoke and heat control systems – Part 2: Specification for natural smoke and heat
exhaust ventilators
Requirements on the classification and the production of a SHEV but not for planning,
mounting or the fitting situation.
In Germany: DIN 18232-2 Requirements for planning, installation
Smoke and heat control systems - Part 2: Natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators;
design, requirements and installation
The DIN 18232-2 is the generally accepted regulation for the tasks of smoke and
heat extraction in buildings. The calculation of the aerodynamic smoke extract
surface is used for a RWA project of natural smoke and heat exhaust ventilators.
• Calculation of the aerodynamic effective exhaust opening
• Required opening depending on room height, required smoke free layer, fire
developing and propagation time.
• Calculation of the aerodynamic effective fresh air opening

Overview SHEV2.4 Tests according to EN 12101-2
initial type testing ITT according to EN 12101-2
The worst case should be tested: weakest profile, biggest size and weight, biggest opening
surface and the drive with its accessories.
Aerodynamic opening width in m²
Correction factor cv0 (without wind influence) and cvw (with wind influence) depends on the
relation width /high and the opening angle (tested on profile or wooden model)
Function (type B) with dual function Re (1000)
Number of cycles , open within 60s (with dual function: 10.000 ventilation cycles + thereafter

Certificate of conformity
The notified body awards the certificate to the producer. After the certification the
producer is authorized to produce these certain SHEVs.
declaration of conformity
The producer declare that the produced product complies certain standards which exist
for this product
Attestation of conformity (CE marking)
A specific product document which shows all the product data. created by the producer.
declaration of manufacturer
The producer creates a document which shows all the possible product tests and explains
which product tests are testes with the product. (E.g. drives)

SHEV production3 SHEV manufacturer
Who manufactures SHEVs?
GEZE provides drives. Whole windows are not in GEZE‘s product range. Therefore
the SHEVs are manufactured by licensed manufacturer. GEZE provides the SHEV
System (test results and information) and the licensed and certified manufacturer is
responsible for manufacturing and sales.
There are several GEZE-SHEV-manufacturer in Germany, who are certified by a
notified body (e.g. ift or ÜG). - Please ask our GEZE Sales team
Possibilities for SHEV manufacturing / selling in other countries:
-Licensing and certifying manufacturer in the country
-Requesting SHEVs from an already certified manufacturer e.g. in Germany

SHEV production3.1 SHEV partner system CASCADING
Step Responsible Explanation
1 Define SHEV system System provider= GEZE GEZE defines a SHEV system (drive, profile,
opening mode, leaf dimensions, accessories
…)
2 Initial type testing(ITT) GEZE orders tests from a
notified body
SHEV tests to classify the SHEV-system
3 Documentation:• ITT = Produktpass
• System documents
• WinCalc
• templates
GEZE GEZE provides a SHEV documentation and
give tips and drafts for manufacturing
4 User agreements contract Between GEZE and
Producer
Licenser gives the SHEV-system documents
to the producer after signing the user
agreements contract
5 Supervision contract Between Producer and
notified body
The producer need a certification by a notified
body. The certification comprised:
1. Initial inspection factory control
2. annual inspection of FPC
3. Certificate of conformity
6 Production, FPC and placing
the SHEV on the market
producer The producer works according to GEZE
specifications and is responsible for the
product
