Yesterday’s technology won’t empower you accomplish TODAY’S objectives
Today’s dynamic cities put people first by employing powerful + collaborative technology solutions to engage citizens, businesses and government in new ways
Create highly capable, configurable and fiscally-responsible technology solutions that connect functions like energy, water, infrastructure, transportation, public safety, health and social services, and government administrations
Enable the seamless flow of critical information between government, businesses and citizens so residents have the resources they need for everyday life and in the event of crisis
Become dynamic, intelligent cities, that deliver cloud-powered enterprise apps that scale and deliver information across all walks of life … on any device or platform
Local governments across the country are leveraging the Microsoft platform to:
Let’s take a look at a typical day in the Dynamic City …Technology connecting citizens and the city to drive a positive community experience …
Driving down the highway …Willie sees an armadillo … stuck in a tree.
He stops and pulls up the Dynamic City 311 app on his smartphone to submit a request for help…
At the city office …Loretta sees a new 311 service request come in on her dashboard … decides to create a case and then search the Knowledge Base to see if there are any articles on the subject…
Like Willie, she finds articles on getting kittens down, but nothing on armadillos… odd
As he’s typing the request the site proactively presents him with articles about resolving similar situations, but they about getting kittens down from a tree…
He decides these won’t solve the problem, so he goes ahead and submits the request
Since this is Texas … and there a lot of armadillos, she figures that this can’t be the first request for this situation, so she looks to see if there are other current or historical cases on the subject…
Turns out there are!
Loretta creates a case …The field services team scheduler then converts it to a Work Order. A field rep receives it on his mobile phone with the suggested approach from the previous case …
He promptly heads out to go save the animal!
While getting the poor armadillo down…The field service rep uses Loretta’s approach but also learns that playing some George Strait sooths the armadillo and gets him down quicker than berries alone …
Seems like a good addition to the KB article …
At the same time … Loretta decides that there should be a Knowledge Base article about de-treeing armadillos available on the 311 app, website and to her contact center peers…
She submits the content as a suggested article.
Back at the city office …Loretta remembers her summer trip to Fredericksburg is coming up and she can’t recall how to submit a time-off request!
Back to the Knowledge Base she goes, where she finds a link to the request form in the employee portal …
Back home in AustinWillie decides to Tweet about the great experience he just had with the city …
“#safe dill, thanks to Dynamic City!”
Clicking on the Tweet ..Dolly offers a public response to Willie and immediately gets 224,000 new followers and re-Tweets!
“#Happy Willie is Happy!”
Dolly, one of the mayor’s constituent managers …Sees the Tweet appear on her Social Engagement dashboard.
It’s an election year and she knows that this really helps showcase the mayor’s decision to invest in their application platform that truly has connected residents and businesses with the city government!
After sending her Tweet …She notices a surge in Zika-related Tweets on her dashboard … she zeros in on one in particular …
“#I think my dog has the Zika virus, what should I do?!”

Another of the Mayor’s advocacy leads is preparing a campaign …She uses Excel to edit a list of potential email campaign recipients right within the same system she’ll later use to send and manage the entire campaign.
What used to require hours of exporting, editing and importing, now is done in minutes and offers a 360 degree view and analytics about the campaign activities.
At the same time a child’s case assessment is occurring…While sitting with a child, a case worker named Waylon is writing notes on his tablet. The notes are automatically tied to the child’s case record alongside all other information about her.
The notes & certain HIPPA compliant data elements are also made available to share with other resources that are working with her, in and across other city, county and state agencies.
Meanwhile across town…Merle, the Parks & Recreation manager is identifying available and appropriately experienced resources to scheduling for work at various locations across the cities parks.
Field resources then are able to update their work orders from their mobile devices

A citizen living downtown files a water pollution complaint online ...This creates a work order that Hank has received notice of on his phone.
He heads to the municipal sewage treatment plant and takes water samples to determine compliance with state permits.
In doing so, Hank records his efforts on his phone which automatically updates the lab and ultimately the concerned citizen.
The Sherriff's office is growing and hiring…Barbara is spending more time these days vetting applications and then running appropriate background, credit and criminal checks for candidates she is moving thru the interview and hiring processes.
Applications are submitted online and fed into her tracking system that she uses right inside of Outlook, so she is now managing the effort in a fraction of the time it used to take.
The city has received a Federal grant and is now utilizing the funds …Tanya navigates thru her grants management system to appropriated the funds toward the services being delivered for the city project.
She can easily see the status of each grant and use self-service dashboards and analytics tools to manage processes and share information with other interested parties.
