Molecular investigations into the effect of green tea polyphenol, epigallocatechin gallate, on invasion and metastasis of breast cancer cells

According to global cancer statistics, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death in women. Even in South-East Asian countries, the incidence and mortality associated to breast cancer has surpassed that of cervical cancer and is thus poses a threat to the general well being and health of women. Epidemiological studies have indicated an inverse correlation between green tea and cancer risk, which is supported by a number of studies on in-vivo models of cancers. Our current research is focused on the effect of epigallocatechin gallate, a major catechin found in green tea on molecular pathways involved in tumor invasion and metastasis.

Mechanisms of invasion and metastasis of breast cancers: role of estrogen

Metastasis presents itself as a major hurdle in successful treatment of Breast Cancer. The role of estrogen in the etiology of breast cancers has been established beyond doubt. However, the role of estrogen, if any, in the invasion and metastasis of breast tumors is not completely understood. Based on cues obtained from the literature we are trying to understand the role of estrogen in breast tumor invastion and metastasis.
