EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The October

2

2014 Special City Council meeting, the City Council appointed Douglas

J. Schmitz as City Administrator for the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Mr. Schmitz start

date was Monday, October 6, 2014.

Mayor Burnett appointed an AdHoc Council committee to work with the City Attorney

and Mr. Schmitz regarding the terms of the contract. The final contract (Exhibit A ) is

attached for Council approval.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA

AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENTBETWEEN THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA AND DOUGLAS J. SCHMITZ, CITY

ADMINISTRATOR.

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea has conducted an

interview for the position of City Administrator; and

WHEREAS, the City Council thereafter offered the position of City Administrator

to Douglas J. Schmitz; and

WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to set forth the terms and conditions of

employment in a written agreement with Mr. Schmitz;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of

Carmel-by-the-Sea that the attached employment agreement entitled Employment

Agreement (Exhibit A) is hereby approved, and the Mayor is directed to sign the

agreement for and on behalf of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
