    Employee welfare means the efforts to makelife worth living for workman. Rapidindustrialization have made employees

    dependent on capitalists. In such a situation,employee welfare facilities enable workers tolive a richer and more satisfactory life.

    Employee welfare:- It means anything done forthe comfort and improvement , intellectual orsocial of employees, over & above wages paid.

    Employee welfare is defined as such services,facilities and amenities as adequate canteen,rest and recreation facilities, rearrangement for

    travel etc.In short it can be said that labour welfare is toenrich the life of employees and keep themhappy and contented.

    It is a dynamic concept. It is flexible and everchanging process.

    Welfare measures can be provided not only by

    employer but by govt. trade union and otheragencies too.

    The basic purpose of labour welfare is toimprove lot of working class.

    Intramurals activities

    which are providedwithin theestablishment such asurinals, creches, restcentres, canteens,

    uniforms, library,medical aid, subsidisedfood etc.

    Extramural activitieswhich are undertakenoutside theestablishment such asfamily planning, childwelfare, cooperativestores, credit societies,holiday homes, leavetravel facilities, travel toand from the place ofwork etc.

    STATUTORY WELFARE VOLUNTARY WELFARE

    It comprising the legal

    provisions in variouspieces of labourlegislation.

    It includes those activitieswhich are undertaken byemployers for theirworkers voluntarily.

    Examples :education,housing, recreation and

    other facilities such ascanteen, restrooms,washing facilities, medicalaid etc.

    The act provides the following services to workers:

    Washing facilities to male and female workers separately Facilities for storing and drying clothes. First aid boxes or cupboards.

    Canteens, where there are more than 250 workers. Shelters, rest-rooms and lunch rooms where over 150 workers areemployed.Welfare officer , if 500 or more workers are employed.

    The act provides for the following : Canteen Creche Recreational facilities for worker and their children Educational arrangements

    Housing facilitiesMedical aid Sickness allowances and maternity allowancesWelfare officer

    There are several agencies involved in labour welfare work.besides centraland state govt. employers, unions and social organisations work as agenciesfor extending welfare facilities to the workers .

    Labour is an important resource for any organization and to raise theirmorale and their productivity, they should be provided with certain

    basic amenities and service despite their wages.
