SoundBite Hearing System Helps With Single Sided Deafness

When Kevin Fortenberry, our IT Operations Manager, had a minor surgical procedure, he never dreamed that he would wake up to being deaf in his right ear, but he did.

Now, thanks to modern technology and a new and non-surgical innovative prosthetic device called the “SoundBite”, many are being helped. There are 2 components to the device, the ITM (In the mouth) hearing device and the BTE (Behind the Ear) microphone unit. No dental work in required other than making and fitting of the ITM. The sound is sent from the microphone to the hearing device which in turn sends the sound vibration by bone to the inter ear of the good ear…

Many people just learn to live with single sided deafness. It is estimated that over 60,000 people in the United States acquire this condition. “I am very thankful for my soundbite device. It has al-lowed me to rejoin conversations,“ , Kevin commented.

Thanks to Amir Abolfathi of Sonitus Medical who is the inventor and The Food and Drug Admin-istration who approved the “SoundBite” in January 2011…Many lives are being changed by this innovative device for those who have single sided deafness.

AFI’s Warehouse Incentive Program

At Affiliated Foods, when we hire a new order selector there is a working standard that must be met in the first 60 days of employment. The Warehouse Management System calculates time for each store order based on Engineered Labor Standard. This time / standard must be met at 100% by the first 60 days. Once the selector achieves 100% of standard and keeps that standard or above, they become qualified order se-lectors. This process helps orders to be pulled in a timely manner.

Virginia is married and has four grown children and five grandchildren who live in Amarillo, Dal-las, and Houston. She loves to decorate her home, shopping, gardening and cooking for the family. And most of all she loves being a grand-mother. The family loves to get together for re-unions, holidays and vacations. Virginia’s favor-ite food is chili releno’s and she loves to watch Mexican soap operas. Virginia’s mother has been the most influential in her life. She taught her to work hard and enjoy life. Virginia’s most memorable moments at Af-filiated was when she received the Employee of the Month in 2005. She is very honored and ap-preciative of the recognition. She plans to con-tinue working and someday retire. She knows life is too short and plans to enjoy, live and love. She selected a gift certificate from The Plaza. Virginia will also receive an additional 250 Safety bonus points. Congratulations, Virginia!
