2017 Scholastic Book Fair
Welcome to
the Jungle!
Scholastic
Book Fair
Can you believe
that our
Scholastic
Book Fair is
next Tuesday?
It feels like it has crept up on us all like a
hungry Tiger.
Our student book parade will start on
Tuesday the 22nd at 11am, with the Book Fair opening soon after the parade finishes.
Afterwards we will have a range of activities
such as games, book readings and challenges
that the whole community is welcome to stay
and get involved with.
It would be great for each family to bring
a plate of morning tea for the school
community to share. Something in a Jungle
theme would be lots of fun.
It is going to be a wonderful day! We hope to
see you all you bookworms there!

Review – Life Education
Students were very excited to be a part of
the Life Education Program last Thursday.
Sessions focussed on important issues such
as healthy food & nutrition, personal safety,
physical activity, cyber safety & much more.
Here’s what our students had to say about the day…….
Roman “I loved it when Harold tried to steal the banana”
Elliot “I learnt how important it is to follow the rules”
Fletcher “Harold told me all about his holiday”
Harry “I found out how my body reacts when I am scared. My heart will beat really fast!”
Review – AFL Match Teven
On Friday, August 11th, the senior students from EVPS travelled to Teven-Tintenbar Public School to play the first of the AFL interschool matches. First the students had a quick skills session with Yanni the Umpire and then it was onto the game. All students were able to play in each of the three major field positions e.g. backs, centres and forwards.
In the early stages of the game, EVPS were able to keep their opposition away from the ball by using their height advantage and this soon gave them some quick goals. As the game continued, Teven-Tintenbar began to slowly claw their way back into the match. By the end of the 3rd quarter, they were playing the better football and notched up some good goals. EVPS however still managed to keep their score ticking over. In the fourth and final quarter there was some very impressive marks (catches) taken and wonderful punts (kicks) through the sticks (goals) by the EVPS students which secured a great win. Yanni announced the score at the end of the game as EVPS 28 – Teven-Tintenbar 25.
Thank you to those parents who helped with transportation. Go Empire Vale! Game 2 will be Wardell P.S at Wardell on Friday 18th August. Then Game 3 the final match, will be Cabbage Tree Island P.S at CTI on Friday 1st September.

Review – Assembly
Well done to all students who were presented
with awards at our recent School Assembly.
It is fantastic to see so many students
receiving recognition for their good work and
social skills throughout this term. It was also
wonderful to see parents, carers and
community members joining us to celebrate
our school success stories at assembly.
The assembly audience enjoyed a lively
performance of Snow White and the Poison
Apple from the Junior Class. It was great to
see such enthusiastic acting!
Congratulations to Sally Crethar for achieving
a Small Schools Athletics Carnival New
Record for 11 years girls high jump with a
jump of 1.18m!
Rohan accepting his reward from Mrs Rantissi
for having his artwork accepted into
Operation Art, Sydney.
Work Experience
We would like to welcome Emily Binder, Year
10 student from Ballina Coast High School,
who will be completing Work Experience in
the Junior class next week.

Inspire Your Kids to Live Offline
With electonic media and small screen
devices becoming an increasingly
common part of our everyday lives it
can be difficult to set limits for our kids’
usage of them.
Rather than saying ‘no’ all the time,
entice your child away from the TV and
screens with an outdoor adventure,
project or idea. Encourage your kids to
spend time outdoors with friends or
family. Introduce them to new hobbies
or try things like flying a kite,
bushwalking, bug catching, baking,
painting, photography, craft activities,
board games or help them come up
with their own creative ideas.
Setting simple limits such as ‘no screen
time’ before school and at dinner time
and making bedrooms screen free
zones will help you to keep track of the
amount of time your kids spend on
screens and ensure that it doesn’t get in
the way of sleep and activities that are
good for their development.

*** Transporters, please remember that primary aged students should not be seated in the front

For those students who have not been allocated a seat you will be required to contact those parents
listed above who have possible spare seats to arrange transport for your child for this event.
Please don’t leave this to chance as we often have parent transporters reorganizing at the last
minute and we are unable to anticipate this at school. Students not attending will remain at school
for some much needed revision work.
