Empathic Letter

My love Donal,

I fear I shall never see your beauteous face or hear your lyrical voice ever again. I sir here in my room awaiting the heavy footsteps of the tans outside my door. They will take me away and probably have me sentenced to death for treason. I do not regret taking the bombs for you and never shall. I would do anything for your sweet face. Do not think of it as your fault as it isn't. I chose to take the bombs for you without being asked by you or Shields.I do not fear death. I think of it as a release of the pain and hardship suffered in everyday life, as a journey to a better place without killing, arguing and violence.I am glad I enjoyed myself so much in these final weeks I spent with you. It opened my eyes to the fact that not all IRA generals were hard-faced and plump-bellied. You were certainly inspiring and if you didn't have to follow that path you could have made a wonderful poet. I have reada very small number of your poems but of those I did read I enjoyed them all greatly. I hope it is a hobby that you carry on with. I still carry in my pocket that note, the one you wrote saying,

MinnieDonal

I also still remember that kiss you gave me, god how my heart was racing! The feel of your lips on mine, like velvet on silk.It is ironic how almost all men want to die for their country, for Ireland, yet it is me, a woman, who will end up being martyred. If I could, obviously, I would choose not to die, to see you again in this life, to kiss you again, but alas that will not be. I will see you again in heaven. I will kiss you again in heaven, something I wait for with such high anticipation. I never asked you if you believe in heaven. I hope for my sake and for gods sake you do.I can hear guards outside, here they come for me. Well they can take me! Let them try!

I shall always love you, your darling MinnieGreg Barker
