The top 3 EI models in use today are:

Page 8: Emotional Intelligence

Salovey-Mayer ModelHas four emotional branches and suggests that your motions make you smarter via:

emotional perception & identification;

Page 10: Emotional Intelligence

emotional facilitation of thought;

Page 11: Emotional Intelligence

emotional understanding; and

Page 12: Emotional Intelligence

emotional management.

Page 13: Emotional Intelligence

The Bar-On ModelComprises five domains upon which to assess your emotional-social traits. These are:

Page 14: Emotional Intelligence

self awareness and self expression;

Page 15: Emotional Intelligence

social awareness and interpersonal relationship;

Page 16: Emotional Intelligence

emotional management and regulation;

Page 17: Emotional Intelligence

change management; and

Page 18: Emotional Intelligence

self motivation.

Page 19: Emotional Intelligence

The Goleman ModelTakes the approach that EI provides the foundation for competencies of personal and social skills that lead to superior performance in the work place.

Page 20: Emotional Intelligence

Goleman contrasts self

Page 21: Emotional Intelligence

as opposed to other.

Page 22: Emotional Intelligence

Then acknowledges the differences between recognition

Page 23: Emotional Intelligence

and regulation.

What is Emotional Intelligence (EI)?

Page 25: Emotional Intelligence

‘To understand and measure the abilities and traits related to recognising and regulating emotions in

ourselves and in others’

Page 26: Emotional Intelligence

Some food for thought…

Is EI a new science or something that’s always been

inherent in psychological studies and methods?

Page 27: Emotional Intelligence

The most gifted leaders are self-aware

Page 28: Emotional Intelligence

and empathetic.

Page 29: Emotional Intelligence

They understand and control their emotions

Page 30: Emotional Intelligence

whilst intuitively grasping how others feel.

Page 31: Emotional Intelligence

But what’s in it for

you?

Page 32: Emotional Intelligence

Loyal and trusting relationships;

Page 33: Emotional Intelligence

increased energy and effectiveness under

pressure;

Page 34: Emotional Intelligence

and the ability to create a brighter future.

Page 35: Emotional Intelligence

It’s not too late

Page 36: Emotional Intelligence

EI can be learnt at any age

Page 37: Emotional Intelligence

and generally increases as we get older.

Page 38: Emotional Intelligence

A Quick

Page 39: Emotional Intelligence

Do you think globalisation has affected EI?

Page 40: Emotional Intelligence

Has EI spread within Western society simply because

societal and cultural norms have changed?

Page 41: Emotional Intelligence

Isthere

adownsideto

EI?

Page 42: Emotional Intelligence

Some think EI is too vague,

Page 43: Emotional Intelligence

some think EI is difficult to measure,

Page 44: Emotional Intelligence

and some think EI is dangerous

when forced upon employees.

Page 45: Emotional Intelligence

EI, what do you think?
