EMOJIS BECOME RACIALLY DIVERSE AND INTROVERT
SMART TECH
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
We all love using the classic emoji set, from the three wise monkeys to the sushi roll, from the crying with laughter face to the smiling cat.
We could soon have some new favourite emojis as Apple release a more racially diverse set and one designer feels like introverts have been left out.
RACIALLY EQUALITY IN EMOJIS
Apple has just released its iOS 8.3 beta update which includes an updated and redesigned emoji keyboard. The new keyboard comes with a new ‘emoji skin modifier’ which allows users to select from 5 different skin tones.
The new skin tones are based on the Fitzpatrick scale, which is a globally recognised scale by dermatologists. However, there is already a debate that one of the skin tones is ‘too yellow’, despite the yellow emoji being a generic default for years.
INTRODUCING THE INTROVERTS…
Rebecca Evie Lynch has designed a range of emojis which help introverts explain their feelings to friends.
The emojis are actually called ‘introjis’ and try to explain social situations introverts enjoy or struggle with. The introjis include images such as reading, being in a bubble and feeling anxiety.
The emojis are designed in 2 categories: activity emojis, which are coloured green and blue, and no company emojis, coloured red and yellow.
