The Ambient Control Space represents the functionality required to establish, maintain and release connections, previously popularly called call control. It refers to all of the signalling and control needed to establish end to end connections for multimedia services, both real-time and non real-time. Connectivity is the functionality related to the transport of user data and to keep quality parameters and mobility working. Services will be supported by APIs from the Ambient control space as well from the Connectivity.Ambient control space and Connectivity are separated and are manifested in different dimensions. The reason for the separation is to increase the flexibility of the overall network. The networks at the edge of the network must proliferate if the network is to grow and the network must be able to cope with the growth and scale its functionality and services accordingly. This is not the case with current network implementations.

IN Europe, FP 6, Globally WWRF, in China, Korea,,Japan and the US there are a large number of activities addressing B3G with everyone trying to get into the lead by giving out system architectures and claiming that we already have the technology for 4G. All are already active in this market. Need consensus on future system standards and on how the building blocks will work together. European industry is fully committed to undertake this task we have 10-20% of turnover allocated to tR & D and only 1% is devoted to collaborative R & D.
