European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC)

is a community driven bottom-up action to connect all existing materialmodelling activities and stakeholders in Europe. The EMMC aims tonetwork with all existing materials modelling related activities in Europeand make use of the EMMC network to complement these activities.

EMMC objectives

• Wide stakeholder consultation• Stimulate complementary activities to what already exists• Stimulate exploitation of existing materials modelling expertise• Stimulate model development necessary for industrial applications• Provide inputs for EC future visions/plans


EMMC Kick-off Meeting

The kick-off meeting of the EMMC was held on the 5th of November 2014 in Covent Garden, Brussels.

Participation in the Council

Everybody working in the field of materials modelling or materialsdevelopment (material producers) are welcome to become a member ofEMMC !

1. Review the list of working groups and decide on whattopic you want to work.

2. Fill the participation form and contact the respective work group Operation Team Manager (OTM) or vice-OTM.

3. Join the team and agree your part in the work plan.

Organisation of EMMC

Working groups (WG)The activities within the EMMC are organized within teams or working groups thatare focused on specific goals. Each working group is responsible to develop itsmission and charter which are published on the public site (http://emmc.info).

Operational team managers (OTM)Each EMMC working group has an OTM and vice OTM appointed from among theactive members. The OTM’s are elected by each working group.

Role of the Operational Management Board (OMB)• Leadership, coordination and main operations of the EMMC • Advisory board (for EMMC working groups) • Provide advice to EC for H2020 LEIT Policy on modelling• Increasing awareness on EMMC activities in broad modelling community • Organisation of EMMC Meetings (wide stakeholder consultations) • EMMC publishing material (e.g. newsletters etc.)


EMMC Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)

EMMC Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)

The EMMC IAB is formed frommembers of the manufacturingstakeholder community. The role ofthe IAB is to guide the EMMC andensure its industrial relevance.

The first task of the IAB was theevaluation and endorsement of theEMMC Roadmap for MaterialsModelling that outlines a strategicfuture materials modelling policy forEurope.

The IAB meets yearly and contributeto the next updates of the EMMCRoadmap.


International Materials Modelling Board

International Material Modelling Board – IM2B

The International Material Modelling Board – IM2B, acts as a channelfor international collaboration with the EMMC. It is also the way toenable non-EU members to be involved in the EMMC actions.

EMMC guidance for Description of Modelling

According to the WP 2016-2017 Introduction (see section 8), from 2016onwards not only the modelling objectives (the phenomena to besimulated) but also the modelling approach (the models and theirinput/output relation, i.e. the “workflows”) will be subject to evaluation bymodelling experts.

The modelling in proposals is expected to be documented following thevocabulary and classification of the RoMM and the guidelines of theEMMC.

Software engineering quality measures are recommended to beincluded in the proposed work plan. Please see the Software QualityAdvice for Academics, a document released by the EMMC for moreinformation. Software engineering quality measures should be taken aspart of the proposed work plan. Please see the document released bythe EMMC for more information.

EMMC guidance on data sharing

Huge amounts of data exist and large parts are non-confidential andcould be of use to others. The EC and also the EMMC are developingways to facilitate increased access to this data. LEIT proposers areasked to consider participation in open data pilot and/or the EuropeanMarketplace initiative.
