Emma's Summer Yoga Newsletter 2018
Hello Summer and Hello fellow Yogis!
Emma filming in Crete May 2018
We are in the midst of retreat season and it is so wonderful to see
so many groups of Yogis coming together and connecting via their
Yoga journeys and having good times along the way. So many of you
have shared your experiences with me about how a retreat you have
been on has given you so much; whether it be a daily practice, new
friends, inspired a new direction in your life, a new career or just
the fact that you can FINALLY touch your toes!
Final evening in Kissamos May 2018
My retreat to Kissamos, Crete in May was fab as always. We were
blessed with gorgeous weather in the high 20’s and Mama Maria spoiled us with her culinary delights.
Final Yoga session on the deck, happy faces May 2018
I was honoured to have so many new students joining me as well as
the lovely folks who come every year and we had a great time, so
much so that next year’s retreat is now fully booked! I will be teaching there again in 2020 so will keep you posted about dates.

More on retreats later but for now- here is all the news for the
Summer…
Cover Girl
If you had told me back in 1999 when I was overweight and
struggling with my back that I would be a Yoga cover girl 19 years
later I would have thought you were in cloud cuckoo land!
Anyway, I’m still not quite sure how it has happened but I will be featured in the Summer 2018 edition of the BWY Spectrum Yoga
magazine, a national magazine which is sent out to members but also
can be bought at select shops on the high street and through the
website and Facebook.
Thanks to Paula for spotting the below on Facebook!
Name in lights!
I had a lovely day at Saltburn with the magazine’s editor and talented photographer, Tori Williams. There was a big parallel in our
lives regarding our mothers which I’m sure drew us together at this point in time.
I was proud to show her around our area particularly on such a sunny
day- I did point out we were very lucky! I also enjoyed my interview
with Kelly Pipes who I think has really captured what I’m about in
the article.
By the end of the day , I was home folding my laundry and cleaning
the bathroom ho hum- so don’t worry, it hasn’t gone to my head
Practice Anytime Anywhere
Yoga is my anchor and source of wellbeing. When life becomes
overwhelming, I practice then practice some more!

Why Retreat?
Going on a retreat whether it be a weekend or a full week affords
you the time to step out of your daily life, reflect on where you are
in your life and where you would like to go. Practising Yoga on a daily
basis cleanses you, builds your inner and outer strength and
confidence and opens up new creativity and possibilities to you with
time to daydream, journal and just be.

My thought to become a Yoga teacher came out of my second
retreat when I realised I wanted to feel happy, healthy and like I
was making a difference in the world all the time. I didn’t want to spend my life counting down to my holidays but wanted to enjoy
every single day and be surrounded by inspiring and supportive
people- et voila-here I am and here you are!
The difference between a holiday and a retreat( and I like both!) is
that a retreat gives you the opportunity to step away from the
TV/Bottle of wine or whatever you use to relax and instead replace
this with Yoga and see what happens.
You also get a chance to meet like-minded people, talk and share
experiences which can lead to other things. I’m so happy when I hear about the retreaters meeting up afterwards or a new retreat
whatsapp group or how people have become good friends after the
shared experience or been inspired by somebody’s journey. It is also a precious thing to have shared those unique moments in time with a
group of people and to have those memories together.
So, here are the retreats, dates and places-hope to see you there!

Emma and David
A weekend of workshops with my teacher, the legendary David
Swenson- my Yoga practice has been so central to coping this last
few months with my mum’s care and her condition.
Looking forward to some Pilates sessions with my pal Lisa as part of
our joint retreat at Cober Hill in July.

Crete May 2018
Still developing my core strength and after many hours of practice I
can now do Eka Pada Koundinyasana (empowering pose- learning to do
this asana has given me so much resilience off the mat)
Hopefully getting to see my Hungarian family in person for Zuzana’s brother’s wedding. I’ve already experienced a Hungarian house party- lots of dancing and lots of homemade food
I’ve been learning Hungarian and can now hold a conversation with my other mama in Slovakia-hope I get to visit in August
Summer won’t be complete without a visit to Blackpool(!)- this time
to go on the new rollercoaster and see Britney Spears!
Continuing the parkruns at various locations and trying to beat my
new PB and also compete with Dr Z. This cardio- vascular training
helps me so much when I’m teaching HIIT classes and doing the moves at the same time- phew!
Reading my new books: Beauty, Power and Grace: The book of Hindu
Goddesses by Krishna Dharma and The Untethered Soul by Michael
A. Singer kindly bought for me by my student Christa.
Touched as always by the lovely words of the retreaters- and some spending for Duty-
Free!
It has been a tough Spring as I manage my grief and care of family
with my usual teaching commitments but I’m so appreciative of all the hugs, messages of support and laughter that I get to experience
with my extended family of Yogis. It all makes a difference and I
feel held in a lotus flower, able to embrace my strength and also my
fragility at the same time as I continue to grow and evolve – light
and dark, joy and pain, the full canvas of life.
Wishing you all a sunny and happy Summer spent doing the things you
love; enjoying life, connecting with others and following your heart’s desire. Much love and Namaste, Emma xx
