UNHAPPINESS , LONELINESS ,

FRIENDLESS, PRIDE

EMILY BRONTE IS A GOOD

EXAMPLE OF A POET WHO TREAT

THE THEME OF HUMAN

IMPERFECTION IN HER POEMS.

UNHAPPINESS , LONELINESS ,

FRIENDLESS, PRIDE

IN BRONTE’S POEM “I AM THE

ONLY BEING WHOSE DOOM” SHE

USES MANY DIFFERENT

FEATURES TO BRING OUT THE

THEME.

UNHAPPINESS , LONELINESS ,

FRIENDLESS, PRIDE

“AND THEN EXPERIENCE TOLD

ME TRUTH / IN MORTAL

BOSOMS NEVER GREW.”

UNHAPPINESS , LONELINESS ,

FRIENDLESS, PRIDE

“ BUT WORSE TO TRUST TO MY

OWN MIND / AND FIND THE

SAME CORRUPTION THERE.”

THE FORM

The title of the poem is directly taken from the first line ,

“I am the only being whose doom”, The

speaker uses (I) to create an effect of realism.

THE FORM

Figures of speech:

Paradox : in(joy- mourn) to emphasize the speaker

feeling of depression.

THE FORM

Figures of speech:

Metaphor :

-( times I cannot hide),a metaphor compares times with a

material object the speaker cant hide.

-( melted off the hope of youth ) a metaphor compares the

happy feelings with ice that melts and vanishes.

THE FORM

Figures of speech:

Metaphor :

- (-fancy Rambo) a metaphor compares imagination with

the Rambo that Appears and vanishes quickly.

THE FORM

Figures of speech:

Personification:

-( sad soul forgot its pride) personification , makes her soul

forgets as a human being who has a mind.

-(And they have died) personification makes her past happy

feelings died as living creatures. This reflects her sadness.
