DESCRIPTION
This paper describes patterns of animal and ecosystem use the Maya sites of Lamanai and Tipu immediately preceding and following contact with Spanish missionaries and conquistadors. These sites were located in the frontier zone of resistance to the Spanish conquest. This analysis suggests that although animal resource use varied over time, the Maya residents did not adopt Spanish norms, but instead returned to earlier "Classic" patterns, perhaps as a direct rejection of Spanish dicatates.
