DESCRIPTION

The O2PAK TM Chemical Oxygen Generator is a non-explosive, single-use oxygen source for use by armed forces within seconds of injury. The rugged and lightweight hand-held Oxygen Generator is small enough to fit in a standard military backpack. It has been designed to be activated within seconds, even in the most challenging or stressful situations, and delivers pure oxygen for extended duration, increasing chances of survival and recovery in cases of life-threatening injury. The O2PAK TM is particularly suitable for units operating in remote environments which are exposed to a high risk of serious injury – these include special operations forces, early entry and rapidly mobile land forces, airborne forces, marines, demining/ EOD engineers, peacekeeping forces, SWAT teams, search and rescue teams, medevac and disaster relief organizations.

SAME GENERATOR AS USED ON BOEING PASSENGER AIRPLANES

Fundamental reaction: NaClO3 --> NaCl + 3/2 O2 Heat generating reaction: Na2O + 1/2 O2 --> Na2O2 + heat Chlorine absorption reaction: Na2O2 + Cl2 --> 2NaCl + O2

Oxygen is produced by chemical reaction when the activation pin is pulled, releasing a spring-powered striker that ignites the reactant. The reactant is sodium chlorate which produces heat in an exothermic reaction (internal temperature of the canister can reach over 300 °C degrees Celsius ). Once activated the production of oxygen cannot be stopped until the reactant is depleted. The heated sodium chlorate decomposes into sodium chloride (salt) and oxygen gas. In the presence of water, chlorine gas and hypochlorite ions are also produced. Disodium peroxide is used to scavenge the chlorine gas and hypochlorite ions.

DROP TESTS

Extensive scientific R&D and testing (shock, vibration, temperature, purity, flow, pressure, humidity…) were done under a wide variety of operational conditions to prove safety and efficacy.

The O2PAK has been cleared by the FDA

O2PAK, Portable Oxygen Generator 510(K) number K120566

Regulation number 21 CFR 868.5440 Class II, Code CAW

The O2PAK is cleared for emergency use under the direction of trained medical military personnel in support for disaster relief, crisis response, wartime operations, deterrence and contingency operations, humanitarian relief operations or peacetime engagements.

ACTIVATION INSTRUCTIONS MARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE BAG

P26029

OXYGEN FLOWS WITHIN 4 SECONDS OF PULLING OUT BOTH PINS (SAFETY + ACTUATION)

1. OPEN COVER FLAP 2. CONNECT APPROVED CANNULA TO FLOW INDICATOR 3. PULL BOTH ACTIVATION PINS

4. CLOSE COVER FLAP 5. INDICATOR WILL SHOW FLOW 6. DO NOT PLACE THE DEVICE DIRECTLY ON THE PATIENT

FOR MORE INFORMATION, REFER TO SI-P26029

ONCE ACTIVATED, THE GENERATOR WILL INCREASINGLY GET HOT AND REMAIN HOT EVEN AFTER THE FLOW HAS STOPPED.

THE END COVERS MUST REMAIN SECURED IN CLOSED POSITION AT ALL TIMES. AVOID PROLONGED DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE SKIN (OVER 1 SECOND) AS POTENTIAL INJURY MAY OCCUR. NEVER PLACE THE DEVICE DIRECTLY ON THE PATIENT The O2PAK will become hot to the touch due to the exothermic reaction within the chemical oxygen generator (the internal temperature can reach up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit - 316 degrees Celsius) with a ‘hot spot’ up to 86°C / 187°F: temperature reached at, near, or past the end of flow.

Where do I find the expiration date? On the label of the O2PAK

Does it make a difference which pin I pull out first? NO (but both pins need to be removed)

What happens if I remove only 1 pin? The flow will not start Both pins have been removed (2nd pin guarantees O2PAK will not actuate inadvertently)

Can pressure build up if the port is blocked? NO (there is a relief valve)

Can the O2PAK be used against toxic fumes or smoke? NO

Is it possible to stop the flow? NO (trying to putt a pin back will not stop the flow)

Is it possible to regulate the flow? NO the flow is pre-determined Can the O2PAK be used with ventilators (10-15LPM)? Not unless user combines multiple O2PAK to reach flow

Is it CE approved? Not yet

Will the O2PAK explode if a bullet goes through? NO, the O2PAK will not explode

What are the O2PAK storage temperatures? Optimal : +50°F to +95°F (+10°C to +35°C) Full range: -40°F to 158°F (-40°C to +70°C)

What are the O2PAK operating temperatures? Optimal : +35°F to +95°F (+2°C to 35°C) Full range: -4°F to 155°F (-20°C to 68°C)

Is a mask supplied with the O2PAK? NO, the O2PAK is an oxygen source only Patient interface: Salter Labs P/N 1600 Nasal Cannula or equivalent
