LED (LIGHT EMITTING DIODE) WHAT IS AN LED?An LED is a special diode that emits light when connected to a circuit board. Inside the diode is a semi-conductor chip with positive and negative electrons separated by a junction. When sufficient voltage is supplied, the electrons cross the junction and join together to create light.

WHY LED’S ARE THE LIGHT OF THE FUTURE• Energy efficient - extremely low consumption compared to incandescent globes• Reliability - a light source with a lifetime of up to 50 000 hours of constant use• Safety - rapid switching characteristics leads to quicker response times• Damage resistant - epoxy resined instead of glass housing• Shock resistant - a chip encased in epoxy resin instead of a filament• Vibration resistant - soldered circuit board has no moving or loose parts• Water resistant - no service required therefore can be fully enclosed in a unit• Flexibility - because of its versatility, any design is possible
