More than a month

after the 7.2 magnitude

earthquake, 14,000

families remain

homeless while 54,000

families suffered heavy

damages to their homes

and properties.

Beyond food and water relief packages, we need to heal our people by rebuilding homes.


Around us are examples of homes built on sustainable and resilient local materials…


… that withstood the earthquake’s intensity


Built using a combination of “amakan” walls, G.I. sheet roofing and concrete flooring, we can

provide safe shelters to our people now.


A core shelter of 16sqm can house a family of five. The

house has two bedrooms of 4sqm each and a kitchen and dining area of

8sqm. It also includes a 2sqm porch as well

as a 2sqm outdoor toilet (in most cases,

we are merely repairing the

beneficiary’s existing toilet facility).

We started to build this house…

…that sits on a concrete floor base with all columns driven down encased in a concrete mix. The beams, ribbing support for the roof and the

GI sheets are also bolted to the columns to provide a sturdy shelter that can be resistant to tropical storms and typhoons….


and finished it in 10 days (November 10, 2013)


Typhoon rated, the materials cost for this house is P32,000.00 while the labor equity of the

beneficiary is P12,000.00

QUALIFIED BENEFICIARIES

In order to qualify for this program, the beneficiary must:

1. Submit a duly accomplished application form

2. Provide a barangay certification that he is a resident in the area and has a tenurial right over the property

3. Provide the labor equity of at least 2 carpenters and 3 laborers

4. Agree to build the Balay Bol-anon core shelter according to specifications

Note: the applicant is also encouraged to secure NHA, DSWD, HUDCC, LGU, etc. financial assistance where and when applicable to help defray the construction costs.
