Turn & mill centers are essentially CNC lathes that perform multiple machining operations. They can be either based on horizontal or vertical lathe, with spindles for milling and drilling and turning. With these all these cutting applications, a part requiring a variety of operations can be set up on only one machine.
Turn & mill lathes have the speed, and flexibility to make parts faster, with higher accuracy since they eliminate errors associated with multi set ups. They can machine from bar stock to finished parts all in the same machine. Turn-mill machines enable shops to stay competitive since they can make parts more economically. Non round parts can be machined on turn mill centers as efficiently when compared to machining centers. They combine the turning center’s chucks and spindles with the travels and milling power of a machining center.
