Components for EMC VPLEX-GeoSynchrony v5.5 Series Host Servers/ Adapters: All Fibre Channel HBAs from Emulex and QLogic (2 Gb/s or greater) and Brocade (8 Gb/s or greater), including vendor rebranded versions. Solaris requires an RPQ when using any Brocade HBA. All 10 Gb/s Emulex, Qlogic, Dell based on Qlogic BCM 578xx, Brocade, Cisco, and Intel CNAs (10GbE NICs that support FcoE). Any EMC or vendor-supplied OS-approved driver/firmware/BIOS is allowed. EMC recommends using latest E-Lab Navigator listed driver/firmware/BIOS versions. Refer to the ESM, located at https://elabnavigator.emc.com, and use EMC VMAX or EMC VNX, along with the desired HBA model and operating system, as the search criteria to find the latest supported driver/firmware/BIOS versions. Adapters must support link speed compatible with switch (fabric) or array (direct connect). All host systems are supported where the host and OS vendors allow the host/OS/adapter combination. If systems meet the criteria in this ESSM, and the ELN connectivity validations in referenced footnotes are adhered to, then no RPQ is required. VPLEX does not support host direct connections and requires HBAs to be connected to supported fabric switches. Host and VPLEX Backend Connectivity Switches: All FC SAN switches (2 Gb/s or greater) from EMC Connectrix ; , Brocade, Cisco, and QLogic Refer to the E-Lab Navigator (ELN) at https://elabnavigator.emc.com, Switched Fabric Topology Parameters table for switch interoperability support. All EMC-approved 10 GbE FCoE switches from Brocade and Cisco for host connectivity only. Only Cisco FCoE switches can be used to connect VPLEX backend storage arrays connections. Refer to the ELN for specific models and firmware support. Refer to the Networking for Storage Virtualization and EMC RecoverPoint TechBook, located at https://elabnavigator.emc.com, for implementation information. Note: See Table 2 for historical notes for VPLEX 5.5 valid through March 2016. Notes pertaining to new data in Table 1 will show as footer notes in that table. Note: See Table 3 for components information and Table 4 for Third-Party Arrays. Note: See Table 5 for a list of backend EMC storage arrays that can attach to VPLEX. Note: The information in this ESSM is a configuration summary. The versions listed in the columns represent versions that work with the listed Platform/Operating Systems and Storage Array. Versions listed in the columns for each specific Platform/Operation System may not be interoperable. Footnotes: 6708 : The posted limit for max no supported LUNs per Symmetrix FC port does not imply the max supported LUNs per HBA. Please review the host base table for the information regarding to max supported LUNs per HBA. 6729 : The posted limit for fan out is based on the architectural supported limit. If there are more than 128 active physical initiators involved, an RPQ is required. 6731 : CX4-120C8/CX4-240C8/CX4-480C8/CX4-960C8 does not support Fibre Channel connection at 1Gb/s. 6732 : CX4-120C8/CX4-240C8/CX4-480C8/CX4-960C8 requires minimum Flare revision 04.28.000.5.701 or greater. 6963 : CX4-120C8X/CX4-240C8X/CX4-480C8X/CX4-960C8X does not support Fibre Channel connection at 1Gb/s. 6964 : CX4-120C8X/CX4-240C8X/CX4-480C8X/CX4-960C8X requires minimum Flare revision 04.29.000.5.001 or greater. 7113 : For Symmetrix array: The no of FC-LUNs is equal to the no of the devices mapped to the storage port including the members of the meta devices mapped to the Symm port. 7564 : CX4-120FCOE/CX4-240FCOE/CX4-480FCOE/CX4-960FCOE require minimum Flare revision 04.30.000.5.506. 7565 : CX4-120FCOE/CX4-240FCOE/CX4-480FCOE/CX4-960FCOE does not support Fibre Channel connection at 1Gb/s. 8841 : The posted limit for fan out is based on the architectural supported limit. If there are more than 128 active physical initiators involved for 8 Gbps FC SLIC (P/N 303-092-102B) or if there are more than 64 active physical initiators involved for 16 Gbps FC SLIC (P/N 303-251-101), an RPQ is required. 8915 : Max iSCSI Initiator count per port is 256, except VMware 9368 : Direct attachments with VMAX 400K, VMAX 200K and VMAX 100K is restricted to the FC IO module P/N 303-092-102 and is supported with only FC-AL topology, PtP direct attachments are not supported 9383 : Boot from SAN is not supported with XtremIO 3.0 on Linux. Please submit an RPQ for boot from SAN review/approval 9459 : Boot from SAN is not supported with XtremIO 3.0 on Windows with Qlogic HBA. 9463 : Windows Failover Clusters are not supported with XtremIO 3.0. 9465 : iSCSI is not supported with XtremIO 3.0 on ESX and Windows. 10113 : Support of the 4/8/16 Gb Fibre Channel IO Modules require VNX Block Operating Environment 05.33.008.5.119 or later. 10114 : The 4/8/16 Gb Fibre Channel IO Modules support Point to Point topology at 4/8/16 Gb link speeds, and FC-AL direct attached at 4 and 8 Gb link speeds only 10579 : For the FCoE protocol, only HW FCoE is supported. 10596 : VIAS is supported. 10597 : VIAS feature support for VMAX requires SMI-S and Solutions Enabler versions as per the VMAX ESSM. 10620 : Array-based RecoverPoint splitter (CRR, CDP, and CLR) is only supported on VPLEX Local and Metro. 10621 : Failover Mode 1 Array-based RecoverPoint splitter (CRR, CDP, and CLR) is only supported on VPLEX Local and Metro. 10622 : Failover Mode 4 GeoSynchrony v5.2 SP1 is the minimum version for support. 10881 : VMware identified a problem with native multipathing (NMP) in ESXi 6.0 where failover may not be triggered when other paths to the LUN are available. Upgrade to vSphere 6.0 update 2 (and later), that includes a fix for this issue. The update is available at VMware Downloads. For further details,

  • refer to VMware KB article# 2144657 (hllp://kb.vmware.com/kb/2144657). Since PowerPath!VE is not using VMware NMP, it is not affected by this issue. 10985: VVOLS are supported on ESXi 6.0 with both Fibre Channel and iSCSI with VMware NMP or PowerPath!VE 6.1 and onward. 10986 : VVOLS are supported only on Fibre Channel with VMware NMP or PowerPath!VE 6.0.1 and onwards. 11009 : VPLEX only supports FC. File/iSCSI are not supported. 11044: 5977.811.784 has been replaced with the 02'16 SR release 5977.813.785. Version 5977.811.784 can still be used for new installs only, and can be downloaded from https://support.emc.com/. For complete details please refer to Salesforce KB: 482212. 11456: Requires 5876 ePack to support NDM. Please contact Dell EMC support for proper ePack. 11697 : Support of IBM AIX Native MPIO for Unity array require a new EMC ODM kit, an RPQ is required.
