Agent Compatibility

Backwards compatibility with 5.2_sp5 and 6.1 is with these agents only:– Master Agent

– Host Agents

– Oracle Agent

– Common Mapping Agent for Hosts and Databases

Any host that is using Invista storage must have the Host Agent patched to UB7 version or later.

All other agents must be at UB7 or later


Symmetrix Enginuity Support

Symmetrix and SDM Agent are no longer backwards compatible

Symmetrix Enginuity Support adheres to the EMC Support Matrix – Reference Table 23 of the ControlCenter Support Matrix, rev A18 and later

– There is no support for these dropped versions of Enginuity; 5265, 5266,5267,5566, 5669, 5670

Enginuity 5670 Risk Statement– Symmetrix with 5670 will discover with UB7 Symmetrix Agent and SE 7.1

– This Symmetrix (5670) can be discovered, but no support will be provided.

– This Enginuity version needs to be upgraded as soon as possible to the targeted version.


Managing Symmetrix Arrays

The Symmetrix and SDM agents follows the Solutions Enabler supported Enginuity versions.

UB7 requires Solutions Enabler 7.1

Observe Enginuity Support

Symmetrix and SDM must be upgraded to the UB7 or later version

SMC 7.1 is required for active management of Symmetrix Arrays.

Starting with Enginuity 5874 - SMC is installed on the Array’s Service Processor

SMC scalability is 10 Arrays or up to 80k devices.

Pre-install checks for UB7

Download the following patches from Powerlink:

– UB7 – CC_4673

– Backup/Restore Scripts – CC_4563

– MRLK7.1.0 – CC_4718

– STS Repository OCPU – April 09 CC_4601 or later

– ControlCenter Repository OCPU – April 09 CC_4603 or later

Check is if SSL is disabled

– If ControlCenter components are not functioning after the UB is applied, the SSL state may be the cause.

– Run lsnrctl status

If port is 1575 – SSL is enabled

If port is 1521 – SSL is disabled

Verify ample Disk Space to applying UB7

– UB7 has a 8 GB free space requirement which is checked before installing UB7

Create a snap-shot for a roll-back

– Always create a copy of ControlCenter directories for before upgrading or patching (UBs and OCPUs)

– Install CC_4563 (Backup/Restore Scripts)

– Follow the instructions for taking a snap-shot of the ControlCenter directory and OS settings

Extra Steps for Success

• Check the security settings of the ewallet.p12 file on each host containing a ControlCenter or StorageScope Repository

• Add administrators if not present, run this command

• cacls %ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\dbsafe\ewallet.p12 /e /g Administrators:F

• This is now handled automatically with the A02 Install Media

• Validate access to the Oracle Databases• Run ecc_getversion (confirms health of Repository database)

• Run emcsts_getversion (confirms health of StorageScope database)

• Login as local ECCADMIN with Local Administrator rights

• Update Bundles can be installed using Terminal Services• Make sure all other Terminal Sessions are logged off and disconnected

• Make sure all other Command Prompt Windows and Explorer windows are closed.

Apply UB7 - Summary of Steps

Run the UB7 InstallShield

Install time is 1 to 2 hours

Expect long pauses during the process

Monitor CPU Time activity by watching the Oracle.exe process in Task Manger

For distributed Infrastructures

1. Apply UB7 completely to the Server/Repository host

2. Apply UB7 simultaneous to:

1. StorageScope Host

2. Stores

3. Performance Manager

3. Upgrade the Console

Install the MRLK7.1 (CC_4718)

Take a snap-shot of ControlCenter using CC_4563– CD to <drive>:%ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\HF4563

Apply the OCPU patches (Latest Oracle Security Patch Update is available on Powerlink)

1. ControlCenter Repository OCPU – April 09 CC_4603 or later

2. STS Repository OCPU – April 09 CC_4601 or later

Take a snap-shot of ControlCenter using CC_4563 (Refer to the Readme)

– CD to <drive>:%ECC_INSTALL_ROOT%\HF4563



Upgrading the CLARiiON Agent - Workaround– UB5 to UB7 only, CLARiiON upgrade may fail - does not happen all the time

– In case of failure:

1. Stop the CLARiiON Agent

2. Launch Task Manager – Show Processes

3. Terminate the NaviSECCLI.exe process

4. Upgrade the CLARiiON Agent from the console

CLARiiON Configuration Alerts (FLARE 26)

– Alerts disappear in the Alerts View after a few seconds

– To check for CLARiiON Alerts – Review in Alert History

CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning Alert (FLARE 28)

– Thin Pool % Full Threshold Alert

– No other support for CLARiiON Virtual Provisioning

CLARiiON FLARE 29 not supported with UB7– Support will be provided with a patch



Download the ControlCenter UB7 Native Install packages from Powerlink– Available January 2010, post UB7 GA

– Now includes the Oracle, CMA, Symmetrix and SDM Agents

– These NI packages will handle fresh install, agent upgrade, and agent patch functionality

Solaris x86 Agents– New platform support, Master and Host Agents ONLY

– Available only through the UB7 Native Install Package

– Solaris x86 agents will not be added to the Media Repository

Console– The initial start-up of the console may take an extended time to initialize. This could

take up to 5-minutes or longer to complete the process

– This will only happen once, per installed/upgraded console instance



StorageScope Service Level/Tiering– LUN tagging via “Apply Changes” may not work

– Deviceprotection column may not be populated, if a specific sequence of actions is performed (See CC 6.1 Release Notes updated for UB7 for details)

– Running the ETL process in both cases above will resolve the issue

– Service Level/Tiering is not supported for IBM ESS arrays discovered with SMI-S

StorageScope Repository installed on customer supplied Oracle instance– Support for this option has been dropped

Oracle ASM Console Support– Tree, Properties, Relationships and Free Space Views

Oracle ASM StorageScope Support– Database capacity is found in the STS ASMDiskGroup field



Windows Vista and Windows 7 Support– Added OS support for Console – Windows Vista and Windows 7

Performance Manager GUI Client is not supported

Windows 2008 R2 Support– Console only, Performance Manager GUI Client is not supported
