linking to CISTI’s collection and services
Guiding principles • Make CISTI’s collection more accessible to researchers from Canada
and anywhere in the world• Meet the research community where they work by collaborating with
Google Scholar• Provide access to both licensed and open access content in its
collection• Exploit opportunities to expose CISTI metadata to discovery tools
and applications• Enable immediate access to electronic collection whenever possible
the goal of the project
To reach into a popular and dominant research workflow by creating a link between Google Scholar and CISTI products and services.
why try agile project management?
• small components• opportunity to output testable pieces of code each
iteration• clear project scope• clearly defined business rules• small effort• familiarity and success with agile software development

the build . . . in summary
• built a crawler• built locate document web service • reused existing web services for identifying and
applying business rules (e.g. appropriate copy, search and data conversion)
• built an application that creates XML • built an openURL parser• created a soft landing and navigation features to ensure
fluid interaction between Google Scholar and CISTI services
• produced15.7 million article-level XML files • built knowledge of agile project management method
Goals
• Connect media with research
• Connect the public to research
• Connect researchers
