    E-mail Error

It's wise to remember how easily e-mail

can be misused, sometimes unintention-ally, with serious consequences.

Consider the case of the Illinois manwho left the snow-filled streets ofChicago for a vacation in Florida. Hiswife was on a business trip and wasplanning to meet him there the nextday. When he reached his hotel, hedecided to send his wife a quick e-mail.

    Unfortunately, when typing her address,

he missed one letter, and his note wasdirected instead to an elderly womanwhose husband had passed away onlythe day before. When the grievingwidow checked her e-mail, she took onelook at the monitor, let out a piercingscream, and fell to the floor in a deadfaint.

At the sound, her familyrushed into the room andsaw this note on the

screen:Dearest Wife, Just gotchecked in. Everything

prepared for your arrival tomorrow.P.S. Sure is hot down here.

H1N1 Pandemic Influenza (Swine Flu)September, 2009 Informational Release

Seasonal Influenza: Also known as the flu, isa disease that attacks the respiratory system(nose, throat, and lungs) in humans. Seasonalinfluenza is a yearly occurrence that causes minoreconomic impact and carries the risk of death pri-

marily people aged 65 and older.Pandemic Influenza H1N1, not the same as

Seasonal influenza: This virus was first detect-ed in people in the United States in April 2009.Current evidence points to some important differ-ences between patterns of illness reported duringthe pandemic and those seen during seasonal epi-demics of influenza.

The age groups affected by the pandemic aregenerally younger. This is true for those most fre-quently infected, and especially so for those expe-riencing severe or fatal illness. Seems to be moreprevalent in cluster situations, schools, collegedorms, and close working environments.

To date, most severe cases and deaths haveoccurred in adults under the age of 50 years, withdeaths in the elderly comparatively rare. This agedistribution is in stark contrast with seasonalinfluenza, where around 90% of severe and fatalcases occur in people 65 years of age or older.

What can you do to protect yourself fromcatching influenza H1N1:

The main route of transmission of the newinfluenza H1N1 virus seems to be similar to sea-

sonal influenza, via droplets that are expelled byspeaking, sneezing or coughing. You can preventgetting infected by avoiding close contact withpeople who show influenza-like symptoms (tryingto maintain a distance of at least 3 feet if possible)and taking the following measures:

Avoid touching your mouth and nose

    Clean your hands regularly

Clean hands thoroughly with soap and water,or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub ona regular basis (especially if touching the mouthand nose, or surfaces that are potentially contam-

inated) Avoid close contact with people who might

    be ill

Reduce the time spent in crowded settingsif possible

Improve airflow in your living space by open-ing windows

Practice good health habits including ade-quate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keepingphysically active

    Officer Allen also stated

that the police departmentwants to receive our callsabout anything that we seethat does not feel right or issuspicious. So call policefirst, 293-7000, and then callthe office.

He also gave us a good tip.Watch for people on bikes ridingthrough the park especially atnight, possibly without lightsand wearing a backpack (people

we do not recognize or that aresuspious). Many drug dealersand burglars use bikes as a wayto get in and out fast.

Crimes:A moped was stolen from a

There is a home on Folsomthat is suspicious, so if you seeanything unusual be sure and

call the police. There are a lot of people

Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash with Wylie

Post in 1935, was probably the greatest political sage

this country has ever known. His words:

ABOUT GROWING OLDER...First Eventually you will reach a point when you

stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

Second The older we get, the fewer things seemworth waiting in line for.

Third Some people try to turn back their odome-

ters. Not me, I want people to know why I look this

way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads

    weren't paved.

Fourth When you are dissatisfied and would like

to go back to youth, think of Algebra.

Fifth You know you are getting old when every-

thing either dries up or leaks.

Sixth I don't know how I got over the hill without

    getting to the top.

Seventh One of the many things no one tells you

about aging is that it is such a nice change from being

    young.

Eighth One must wait until evening to see how

    splendid the day has been.

Ninth Being young is beautiful, but being old is

    comfortable.

Tenth Long ago when men cursed and beat the

ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today it's

    called golf.

And finally If you don't learn to laugh at trouble,

you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.
