need better protection in daily routine but also in special situa-tion to avoid that the wrong person is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevertheless, the open and friendly atmosphere of their environment should remain unchanged.

need uncomplicated access to buildings, classrooms, staff rooms, lavatories etc. with only one key. Losing a key must not cause a fiasco and compromise security. The locking system should come to the aid of the absent-minded and lock the doors automatically after the end of lessons to avoid “forgotten doors”.

need an efficient tool to prevent vandalism and theft and to be enabled to respond quickly in case of compromised safety. They should be enabled to determine and implement differentiated access authorizations easily and efficiently.

need locking systems that are cost-effective and provide opti-mum key management covering even several properties. For this purpose, these systems must allow for subsequent configu-ration and extension without replacing keys or locks. It must be possible to grant service providers (e.g. craftspersons and clean-ing personnel) access within specified time limits.

Description

The ELOCK2 locking system substitutes conventional door locks. Owing to its wide range of functions, it provides numerous active safety features as well as organizational advantages that, up to now, could not be implemented with conventional, merely mechanical locks.

The system variant for educational institutions covers not only amok situations but also further fields of risk such as theft, vandalism and the access of unauthorized persons.

The Key Components of the ELOCK2 System:• ELOCK2 mortise locks work according to a novel, patented me-

chanical principle that guarantees basic mechanical security and simplifies the operation process. The unlocking action is carried out without motor drive and swivel action just by the smooth ope-ration of the door handle.

• The system software will provide the ELOCK2 secure transponders with the required access authorizations, so that they can be used as ”keys“ for authentication at the door.

• The electronic control unit is integrated in the steel housing of the lock, where it is autarkic and manipulation-protected. In addition to calendar and clock for time control, it also includes stored infor-mation on access authorizations, access times and function mode. After authentication by the secure transponder, it will couple the mechanism for unlocking at the door handle and will thus give free access.

• The ELOCK2 system software is the control center of the safety system. It is used to manage and change the access authoriza-tions and the function mode and to transmit them to the secure transponders and locks. It also allows for the immediate disabling of access for lost secure transponders.

Basic Functions

The door handle can be pressed down, but the deadlatch will remain locked. V4 is locked.

The lock will be released by press-ing the secure transponder onto the decoder.

Pressing down the door handle will retract the deadlatch and give access.

locked unlocking open

Opening and ClosingUnlocked doors can be opened and closed in the usual way by using the door handle.

Unlocking

Option 1When the door is locked, the valid secure transponder is pressed onto the decoder. The lock will confirm the authentica-tion by giving an acoustic and an optical signal. The door can now be opened by using the door handle.

Option 2The lock will unlock itself through its time control on specified days of the week at defined times.

Option 2bThe lock can be unlocked by secure transponders with re-stricted access authorizations, as with option 1, but only within specified time frames.

Option 3With the extension level network connection, the lock can be unlocked through remote control by the ELOCK2 system soft-ware via network.

ELOCK2 locks with panic function can always be unlocked/opened from inside (single action by pressing down the door handle).

Locking

Option 1 (Function mode: Self-locking)The lock will automatically lock itself after the door is closed.

Option 2 (Function mode: Permanent unlocking)The valid secure transponder is pressed onto the decoder. The lock will confirm the authentication by giving an acoustic and an optical signal and will lock itself.

Option 3 (Function mode: Timing)The lock will lock itself at the specified time through the timing function.

Option 4 (Function mode: Emergency locking)The lock can be locked from inside against access from out-side by pressing the finger on the decoder (without a secure transponder). The lock will confirm the locking process by a permanent red light and without acoustic signal. (This function mode is only available in combination with the panic function. For this reason, the door always can be unlocked and opened from inside by using the door handle.)

Option 5With the extension level network connection, the lock can be locked by the ELOCK2 system software or a connected alarm system via network.

Advantages of the ELOCK2 System

more securemore flexible

Safety• Refuses access in case of amok alarm by quick-action locking, even without the

secure transponder.• Lost or stolen secure transponders can be disabled immediately to avoid compro-

mising of safety.• “Forgotten doors” will be locked automatically by the time control.• Unauthorized “key copies” (illicit keys) are impossible.• Differentiated access authorizations for every lock: Individually, for a specified group,

for a specified time, day of the week, or within specified time limits.

Organization• The high variety of configuration options will remain unchanged even after the

introduction of the ELOCK2 system software and can be changed at any time.• The secure transponders and access authorizations can be adapted according to any

change in the organizational structure.• Access authorizations with time limits will simplify the organizational course of action

of occasions (e.g. school parties, events, constructions works) without safety risks.• Access authorizations with time limits (time frames for times and days of the week)

allow for issuing transponders to participants in workgroups or to external service providers (e.g. cleaning companies), etc..

Comfort and Design• Easier and faster handling• Large bunches of keys are a matter of the past. Only one transponder per person

required.• Efficient key management• The system elements have an unobtrusive and undemonstrative shape and a neutral

appearance in the interior design.

Cost-Effectiveness, Technology and Quality • Fast and easy installation without additional drill holes or cable connections in all

door and lock types (full-leaf doors, tube-metal-frame doors, all-glass doors).• The ELOCK2 product range also includes system-compatible products for further ap-

plications such as garages, gates, elevators, latches or cabinet locks.• ELOCK2 transponders are cheaper than conventional keys and can be held on stock

and be initialized on demand for quick availability.• The compatibility of the system elements and of the software makes the ELOCK2

system highly scalable, successively expandable and downward compatible with conventional locks. An introduction in investment steps of different scopes is pos-sible without any problems and also without loss of efficiency or compatibility.

• The use of open standards and interfaces allows for the combination with other systems (database, alarm controls, networks) and provides guaranteed future.

• ELOCK2 products and software are developed, produced and supported by the ISO-certified company Security Locking Systems in Esslingen on Neckar since 1991.

• Direct, fast and competent technical support on the phone or one site by SLS or by your ELOCK2 service partner.

Technology

The patented deadlatch in the mortise lock V4 combines the parts latch and deadbolt of conventional mortise locks in one ingenious part of high-tensile steel. The deadlatch always protrudes 20mm into the lock plate and thus has the same resistance as a conventional deadbolt after the key has been turned twice.

The V4-deadlatch: 2 in 1

Standard ComplianceThe designs of the ELOCK2 locks allow for easy installation into existing doors with standard lock cases. This will not require any changes to door leaf, lock plate or door frame. Conventio-nal handle plates (often the existing ones) can be used.

Cordless and power grid independentELOCK2 locks are independent of the power network and do not require any cable connections on doors or frames. The electronic control unit in the lock is powered by a 1/2AA battery, which can be replaced easily. The mean service life of a battery is three to five years. A warning signal during operation will inform you in time about a critical battery status. If the bat-teries or totally empty, the lock can be powered from outside by a mobile external power supply and can then be opened by using the secure transponder.

Emergency Doors and Emergency RoutesELOCK2 locks have been approved for use on doors in emer-gency exits and emergency routes. In particular, the permissib-le use with ELOCK2 door handles has been certified according to DIN EN 179 and DIN EN 1125.

Fire Protection and Smoke ProtectionThe use on fire doors and smoke control doors is permitted. The test certificate and the supervision contract are available.

Burglar ResistanceThe electronic evaluation system and the battery are located in the safe zone within the lock and are protected against acts of sabotage. Insurance companies accept the mortise lock V4 as a sufficient protection against burglary.

Secure Transponders instead of KeysThe passive ELOCK2 secure transponders are not equipped with batteries and have low weight, dimensions and price. They are available as a keyring pendant, in check card size, as a bracelet or as a watch.
