Game NotesNon-Conference Success: The Soaring Eagles have had a fair amount of success against non-Empire 8 opponents over the last four years. Entering the 2014-15 season, EC has gone 13-7 against non-conference opponents, includ-ing a 6-4 mark when playing inside the Murray Athletic Center.

Building Off the Fall Finale: Keith Bujak ’15 and Satchal Waters ’16 have each been at Elmira for three years, but this season will be their first playing together in doubles. Individually, they have had success in doubles in the past, but the duo struggled in their first few appearances in the fall, losing their first four matches together. They did, however, win their last match of the Fall season, defeating Hamilton College’s number one doubles team, 8-6.

Going for Number Three: Elmira has posted two straight plus-.500 seasons after going over a decade without a win-ning season. The core four players of this year’s squad, Keith Bujak ’15, Satchal Waters ’16, Austin Mansell ’16, and Scott Ferron ’16, have been a part of each of those two winning seasons, giving the Soaring Eagles a veteran-laden team ready to make it three straight.

Records Could Fall: Satchal Waters ’16 enters the 2015 sea-son with 18 career doubles victories, which includes his vic-tory over Hamilton College on September 27th. He stands just seven wins shy of tying Sam Pine ’14, and eight from retaining sole possession at the top of the list for most ca-reer doubles victories. Waters has had at least eight doubles wins in each of his first two seasons, putting him on pace to become EC’s all-time leader this season.

Looking Ahead: The Soaring Eagles have a couple weeks away from competition before resuming their non-confer-ence schedule at Penn State Behrend on Sunday, March 1st. The match is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. in Erie, PA.

A Look at the Redhawks: Roberts Wesleyan College con-cluded their fall season with a 2-1 record, with wins over Nazareth College and Philadelphia University. Roberts swept Nazareth, 9-0, before downing Philadelphia, 5-4, later that week. The deciding point in the win over the Rams came at the fifth singles spot from Rene Torti ’16.

Out in the Semis: Roberts Wesleyan compiled another strong season last year, going 15-7 overall and earning a bid to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships. The Redhawks advanced to the semifinals of the NCCAA Championships, but fell in the semifinals for the second time in four years, losing to Mc-Murray University, 5-0.

Pair of Transfers Making an Impact: The Redhawks received two transfers for the 2014-15 season from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Guilherme Plentz de Liz ’17 and Rene Torti ’16. Plentz de Liz and Torti were slotted in the fourth and fifth singles spots, respectively, in the fall season while also being paired together at third doubles where they went 2-1.

What’s Next?: Charles Farres ’16 has had a tremendous amount of success in his first two years at Roberts Wesleyan, compiling a 43-7 singles record, including a 31-1 mark at sec-ond singles. Farres has taken the reins as the number one singles player for 2014-15, posting a 1-2 record in three fall matches.
