This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the holy season of Lent. Please come to mass at 6:30, 12:15, or 7 pm. We are marked with ashes as a reminder of our mortality and as a procla-mation of our Christian faith. Pease see details elsewhere in the bulleting regarding Lenten offerings, and mark your calendars for our Parish Mission on March 26, 27, and 28. More details will follow. During Lent, we are asked to do three things: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Why not attend week-day mass or come to the Stations of the Cross or Adoration or read the daily mass readings every day? Maybe taking time to pray as a family or as a married couple would be a possibility. Fasting is an ancient practice whose goal is to detach ourselves from the world and thus open our-selves more fully to the grace of God. Fasting is only required on two days, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, but we can benefit from fasting on a more regular basis too. Almsgiving is giving to the poor. Many in our parish do this regularly. We can make a special effort to do it during Lent, and thereby serve the Lord in the poor. I invite every member of the parish to receive the sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation during Lent. We will have a Lenten Penance Service on February 29 at 7 pm. Confessions will also be available at the regular time on Saturdays as well as on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm. This powerful sacrament of forgiveness is a great preparation for Easter, and can be a powerful source of inner healing. Our sincere practice of Lenten penance can lead to a more joyful celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord at Easter. We will take a break from our Lenten discipline with a St. Pat’s Dinner Dance on March 3 at the Em-bassy Suites Hotel in Schaumburg. This is one of the two major fundraisers for our parish, and we are planning a wonderful party this year. Please join us as we celebrate the annual “wearing of the green,” with music, dance, dinner, silent auction and raffles. I am very grateful for all of your sup-port for our parish. God bless you, Lent 2012 Ash Wednesday Masses: 6:30 am, 12:15 pm, 7:00 pm Stations of the Cross Fridays, 7:00 pm Confessions: Wednesdays, 6-7 pm Saturdays, 4:30-5:25 pm

Two candle racks are in the rear corners of the church, near the statues of St. Therese and St. Joseph. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Annual Catholic Appeal 2012 Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin. While funding a number of Archdiocesan ministries, the Appeal supports parish ministries that provide religious education to children, youth and adults in economically disadvantaged communities. It is also one of the largest philanthropic sources of financial assistance for Catholic schools in the Archdiocese. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal campaign is much different than a one time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on God’s gifts to you. He has given you all that you have. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout the world are given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you. Sometimes it is difficult to envision how one pledge can help an organization the size of our Archdiocese, how it can make a real difference. But each pledge does make a difference because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and ser-vices. Our combined gifts not only signify our gratitude to God, they fund a signifi-cant portion of the work of our Archdiocese. After our parish goal of $35,604.00 is reached in cash, 100% of the additional funds come back to our parish to help to fund our needs. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you that did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond to it, we will conduct our in-pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend.
