ELIPS LAW JOURNAL
Author Submission Guidelines
The mission of ELIPS Law Journal, the regular newsletter of the Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property
Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association (ELIPS), is to provide reasoned opinion, practice tips,
analyses of public policy and scholarly analysis on professional and academic topics about entertainment and
intellectual property law.
Initial Submissions: Contact the executive editor, Jonathan Larr, at [email protected] to discuss
whether your topic is appropriate for the ELIPS Journal.
Article Length: Articles should be in between 1,000 and 5,000 words and in Microsoft Word (.doc) format.
Style: The writing should be appropriate for a law review article and should strive to conform to The
Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. However, we realize this is not law review and references don’t need
to be perfectly cited as long as the sources are clear.
The following are some simple rules to keep in mind:
Use gender‐neutral language.
Avoid long quotations.
Avoid excess verbiage.
Avoid using a long word when a short one will do.
Avoid using a foreign phrase, scientific word, or jargon if you can think of a more common English
equivalent.
Avoid overworked figures of speech.
Avoid excessive capitalization.
Avoid excessive use of commas.
Author Biography: Include a brief description of your current professional affiliation, including your title,
organization and e‐mail address.
Manuscript Preparation: All references should attempt to be accurately cited, in end note format instead of
imbedded references, using the citation style of The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. Please number
pages, italicize rather than underline and submit the manuscript as an e‐mail attachment.
Prior Publication: Simultaneous submission of manuscripts to other publications is discouraged and must be
brought to the attention of the ELIPS Journal editors. Unless otherwise clearly noted, all manuscripts are
expected to be original.
Copyright: ELIPS Law Journal retains the copyright to all material published in ELIPS Law Journal. Special
arrangements can be made for authors who want to retain copyright to their articles. Authors will receive a
PDF copy of their final articles suitable for posting on their organizations’ websites.
