FOCUS

• Goal: Clear focus in your story• Purpose should be established

early in your story• General plotline should be

planned before writing• Allows you to know where you

want to go

ORGANIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT

• Make sure your story makes sense• What point do you want to make

in your story?• How do you plan to do this?

• Each loose end should be tied up at the end of your story• Should logically make sense

CLARITY/PRECISION

• Say what you mean and mean what you say!• Being vague or ambiguous

suggests that you’re unclear about your story• If you’re unsure about your story,

your READER will be unsure about your story

GRAMMATICAL/MECHANICAL CORRECTNESS• Correct grammar • Improves communication• Allows audience to connect

• Incorrect grammar/spelling • Jolts your reader out of the story• Implies lack of care (or knowledge!)

REVIEW

• Make sure your story has focus• Organize your ideas before you begin writing• Develop your story (fill in loose ends!)• Say what you mean and mean what you say• Eliminate ALL typos!
