ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF LANDSCAPE DESIGN
-seeks to create balance between living and natural environment
-a landscape to a designer is like a slab or marble to a sculptor or insides of a home to
a interior decorator
-a landscape is the canvas on which the landscape designer crafts his or her master
piece
ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPE DESIGN
- COLOR
= Used to convey emotion
= HUE or CHROMA refers to the relative purity of strength
= VALUE determines how light or dark the color
= INTEnSITY refers to how bright or dull the color is
- LINE
= Creates a order by directing eye movement or flow. Lines in a landscape
design gives the eye directions about where to look
= May used to draw attention to an object
= divide a space
- FORM
= defines the shape and structure of an object
= indicates shapes of plants
- TEXTURE
= is the surface of an object
= is how you fell when you touch it
- SCALE
= refers to the size of an object in relation to its surrounding

- UNITY
= refers to the use of elements to create harmony and consistency with the
main theme or idea of the landscape design.
= Gives design a sense of oneness and interconnection.
- BALANCE
= gives the design a sense of equilibrium and symmetry in visual attration
- PROPORTION
= describe the size relationship between parts of the landscape design or
between a part of the design and design as a whole

- FOCALIZATION OR EMPHASIS
= directs visual attention to a point of interest or prominent part of lanscape
design
- SEQUENCE OR TRANSITION
= creats visual movement in landscape design
= anchieved by the gradual progression of texture, form, size, or color
- RHYTHM
= creates a feeling of motion which leads the eye from one part of the
landscape deisign to another part.
- REPETITION
= is the repeated use of objects or elements with identical shape form,
texture, or color
