Bretford Laptop Cart

Each cart is numbered and should contain 30 Dell laptops. There will be 2 wireless access points mounted on each cart.

A combination lock is required to unlock the cart. Please do not share this information with students or non RPS personnel. Refer to Locks document if assistance is needed.

Laptops are all labeled with the cart number and the position # in the cart. Shelved are also labeled. Make sure laptops are always returned to correct position and correct cart.

This is the view of the inside front of the laptop cart. You can see the power pack that is attached to each laptop, as well as the power strip where the power packs are charged. You should not plan to unplug from the power strip.

Cart Guidelines•The teacher should be the only person to handle the removal and return of the laptops to the cart.•Laptops are to be shut down before returning them to the carts.•Carts should always be plugged in to an electrical outlet for charging.•Access points also need to be plugged in when laptops are in use by students.

Mobile Lab Safety Tips

•Students should never move the Mobile Lab from one location in the building to another.•Turn Cart OFF before plugging cart into the electrical outlet.•Plug Cart directly into wall electrical outlet, not a power strip. •When laptops are not in use they should be stored in cart and be charging for next use.

Laptops in Students’ Hands

•Sign out calendar in a folder outside the door where each cart is located so other teachers can sign up for that cart as necessary.•Sign-out charts in a folder attached to cart for individual checking out of laptops by students. •“Generic” signing is suggested.

Laptops to Students

Students are to use “3 point hold” while handling a laptop: 2 hands holding laptop against body.

Laptops and shelves are numbered, with cart letter first, then laptop number. Students should use the same laptop each time.

Teacher Guidelines•The Classroom Teacher is pivotal to the success of the process.•Teachers’ obligations are governed by the Mobile Device Procedures and Acceptance Form.•The teacher whose classroom that cart resides in is the party ultimately responsible for its care.

“Staff members will not be held responsible for computer problems resulting from regular school-related use; however, staff members will be held personally responsible for any problems caused by their negligence.

Substitutes & Laptop CartsTeachers should NOT schedule a Laptop Cart when a sub is in the classroom. Subs do not have training on the proper use of the Cart, and students are more likely to do damage to a laptop or go to inappropriate websites. Do not put use of mobile carts in EMERGENCY lesson plans or regular lesson plans for a sub.
