Rotation Blogs 1
Every week after visiting a unit, we were required
to blog about our experiences while on rotation. We had to
carefully observe HIPPA regulations, while being
as informative as possible. We would then comment on two other students’ blogs, so that
we could learn from their experiences as
well.

As a student in the St. Gianna Catholic Health Academy, I had access to many exclusive opportunities. For this reason, it was absolutely imperative to recognize the generosity of others by writing thank you letters – both creative and professional – and baking cookies for each unit
Biomedical engineers combine knowledge from a variety of disciplines, including biology, medicine, and engineering fields—most notably electrical and mechanical.
They conduct a copious amount of research to develop medical technologies and information systems ranging from MRI machines to artificial limbs and organs.
I find this field particularly intriguing because it accentuates my strong background in mathematics and problem-solving, while also entertaining my interests in the sciences of biology, medicine, and physics.

Notre Dame
One afternoon Health Academy students had the opportunity to visit the Newman University Cadaver Laboratory
It was an excellent experience, as it gave me a more tangible perspective of the material we had been learning
CPR We participated in a
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course at Via Christi St. Francis
We learned the proper procedures through a workbook, and by practicing on dummies
After successfully completing the course, I am now CPR certified
Hygiene Presentations In an effort to give back
to the community, Health Academy students gave hygiene presentations to elementary school students
The presentations covered hand washing and dental hygiene
We dressed up in costumes, performed skits, sang songs, and utilized a variety of props to make our presentations interesting and informative
Medical EquipmentWe learned how to properly test and use the following: Stethescope Blood Pressure Pulse Reflexes Respiratory System Vision
Medical Terminology Health Academy
students enrolled in a Medical Terminology course through Newman University
This allowed us to better understand the language used on rotations
Gives us a solid base in anatomy and terminology heading into college
Next fall, I will be attending the University of Notre Dame
Although I am still determining my major, one strong option Notre Dame has to offer is their medical program
