  • Porsche Stability Management PSM PSM is an automatic control system that stabilizes the car at the limits of dynamic driving performance. Sensors continuously monitor driving direction, speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration to compute the actual direction of motion. If this direction deviates from the desired course, PSM initiates braking at targeted wheels to correct and stabilize the car (prevent a spin). 25Mar2015 3 Recommendation: ENABLED Light OFF!! • Sport & Sport Plus Sport Mode (and Sport Plus on the 991 generation cars) raises the performance dynamics of the car when enabled. 1-button that enables most of the sporty tricks & features. Throttle pedal sensitivity is increased PSM intervention point is raised PDK shifting becomes more sporty PASM & PSE are also enabled when Sport Mode is enabled, but can then be separately disabled if desired. 25Mar2015 4 RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic Recommendation: ENABLED

  • PSM & Sport Mode Interaction PSM Enabled (light off) PSM Disabled (light on) Sport Mode Disabled (light off) PSM is active Condition at vehicle start PSM is temporarily reactivated when ABS threshold is exceeded on at least 1 front wheel Sport Mode Enabled (light on) Raised thresholds for PSM systems intervention. Greater chassis dynamism & agility. PSM is temporarily reactivated when ABS threshold is exceeded on BOTH front wheels. Significantly reduced load- change compensation for more dynamism when steering into corners. 25Mar2015 5 Arrows indicate the order of increased agility & decreased intervention RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic

  • Reasons to Leave PSM Enabled Driver (and instructor) safety. Car preservation. Reduced liability. Flashing PSM light says, You just ham-fisted the car! A smoothly driven Porsche with PSM & Sport Mode enabled can lap HPR all-day long without PSM intervention. Allow student to disable PSM only once they Have extremely repeatable lap lines & times (consistency) Know where the limit of grip lies (butt feel) Can quickly & reliably correct for under-steer & over-steer (control) Can throttle-steer with still hands & wont lift inappropriately Preferably once you are no longer in the right seat 25Mar2015 6 RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic

Its for our safety & to ensure you can drive it home. Once you have demonstrated the necessary skills and that PSM is actually limiting your driving, we can discuss it. • PSM Sub-Systems ABS Anti-lock Braking System ABD -- Automatic Brake Differential Porsches version of a limited slip using the ABS sensors to brake the wheel that has lost traction. If both drive wheels loose traction, ASR ( Anti-Slip Regulation, comes into play by reducing engine power until traction is regained. • Porsche Active Suspension Management PASM PASM is an electronic damping control system. Sensors monitor the movement of the vehicle body. The control unit tunes the suspension to reduce pitch and roll in order to maximize tires contact patch with the road. 25Mar2015 9 RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic Recommendation: ENABLED

  • Porsche Doppelkupplung PDK The PDK transmission is essentially two half gearboxes in one utilizing two separate input shafts. One clutch operates the even gears and the other the odd gears. Power flows through one half of the gearbox and one clutch at a time, while the next gear is preselected in the second half of the gearbox. During a gear change, a conventional shift no longer takes place. Instead one clutch simply opens and the other one closes at the same time. The gear change is completed in milliseconds. 25Mar2015 10 RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic

  • Dave Striblings PDK Advice With the car in sport mode, whatever the highest sport mode it is equipped with, preferably sport plus, it will turn faster lap times than a professional driver if you dont do anything but steer, gas, and brake. The car will adapt to the track and shift where it can best utilize its torque curve. Short shift on this turn, hold out till red line here, it is quite amazing. So my advice is put the car in sport (plus if it has it), tell the student to not shift with the paddles, and teach them to drive, not about the car. The car will do its thing better than we can do it and far better than any of us can teach it. Focus on the basics, turn in, apex, track out, eyes up, hand positions, it really makes our job much easier! 25Mar2015 12 RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic

  • Porsche Sport Exhaust PSE PSE utilizes a valve in the exhaust system to deliver a deeper and more resonant exhaust sound. No performance or handling impact. 25Mar2015 13 Recommendation: Either RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic

  • Auto Start-Stop Function Default setting is enabled light off Shuts off the engine when you come to a stop with your foot on the brake (and clutch out) for fuel-savings. Automatically restarts the engine when the brake is released or clutch is depressed. Deactivated by Sport Mode, or vehicle needs (cooling, battery charging, engine warm-up, etc.) 25Mar2015 15 Recommendation: Either RMR/AMR PCA Instructor Clinic
