I N T R O D U C T I O NMedical equipments are designed to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring

or treatment of medical conditions .THERE ARE BASICALY 9 CATEGORIES IN MEDICAL EQUIPMENTS.

1. Diagnostic 2. Self Care

3. Surgical 4. Durable Medical Equipment

5. Acute Care 6. Emergency and Trauma

7. Long Term care 8. Storage and Transport

9. Electronics

Electronics medical supplies and equipment are summarized into a few broad groupings which are as follows…..

Software

Eg: Medical Informatics such as Electronic Medical Records, Medical Imaging Software, etc.

These software programs run within the hardware used by hospitals . Software continue to

gain ground in the managing of patient health information and help to record and interpret

measurements, pictures, and patient health data to assist physicians

in diagnosis and treatment.

Monitors

Eg: Heart Rate Monitors, Breathing Rate

Monitors, Blood Pressure Monitors

Monitors of various types are typically powered by

software programs to provide recordings of patient health status.

Without these monitors, clinicians would have a more difficult time judging whether the patient

is improving with the prescribed treatment. Products in this category are very useful in

diagnosis.(by studing the symptoms)

Medication Pumps

Often used in Dialysis , Medical,& SurgeryThese are devices that are programmed to dispense a certain amount of medication into a patient at a rate specified by the clinician and dosing instructions. Plasma, Saline, and blood can also be pumped into a patient through the use of a medication pump.

Powered Medical Equipment

Eg: Powered beds for acute, rehabilitation, and long term care , electronic-powered exam tables .

Powered beds and exam tables allows a clinician to raise and lower the bed or the exam table to improve the ease and safety of access for the patient. Some even have a massage feature.

Now, Here are some electronic equipments

Digital finger blood pressure monitorsThese are the smallest and most portable. While easy to operate

, they are a bit less accurate.

SYNGE PUMP

Digital SphygmomanometersAlso known as SPHYGMOMETER ..like the digital finger Blood Pressure Monitors its

also an electronic equipment used to measure blood pressure composed of

an inflatable cuff to restrict Blood flow, and a mercury or

mechanical manometer to measure the pressure. It is always

used in conjunction with a means to determine at what

pressure blood flow is just starting, and at what pressure it

is unimpeded. Manual sphygmomanometers are used with

a stethoscope.

This can be used either manually or automatically. These are easy to use, but derive

blood pressure in an indirect way. These are helpful in noisy areas where the manual

mercury manometers would prove ineffective because of the need for the clinician to

hear the Korotkoff sounds.

ElectrocardiographsElectrocardiographs are diagnostic tools that measure the electrical activity of the heart. During this examination, heart rate can be recorded, as well as the regularity of the beats. These are two key indicators as to whether there are any issues of concern in the heart.

Physicians can even read an electrocardiograph to determine the size and position of each heart chamber. And finally, a major use for the electrocardiograph is to diagnose damage to the heart, and the impact and efficacy of drug treatment or device implant success.
