WHAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS The candidate that receives the majority of electoral

votes wins the presidency. 538 total need 270 to win

Each state total of senators and members of the House of Representatives determine how many votes they get for president. Several state with three California 55 Nevada 6

State legislatures will choose manner of selecting electors.

If no candidate gets the majority, the House of Representatives will vote. One vote per state.

THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE TODAY People of the states are voting for the

electors of the electoral college. 48 states are “winner takes all” for

electoral votes. In most cases the electors choose the

candidate that won the most votes in the states.

The electors meet in December to vote for president and Congress reveals the vote on January 6.
