Shishikoo Peak Shaped like a crouching lion. Located vertically between Kara- kuni Peak and Shinmoe Peak. Beautiful view of Kirishima mountains, lakes, and smoking Mt. Sakurajima from top Takachihogawara A steep slope down from Naka Peak, with broken rock, and then back to the trail. When you leave the forest you are at Takachiho- gawara. Ebino Highlands The trek through Kirishima starts here. Footing is poor through the 5th station, but is gets easier after that. Shinmoe Peak The name means "newly burning" and is thought to derive from when the volcano erupted once. Naka Peak The Kirishima- Miyama azaleas are beautiful from mid-May to early June.
