that with the help of small hydrau-

lic jacks inserted into the spring

elements, steel shims can easily

be put into the gap between the

compressed spring element and

the spring-supported machine.

Owing to their high-speed rolls, rotary

printing presses cause vibrations

In the machine itself as well as in its foun-

dation. Therefore, in many cases right up

to the present a large concrete founda-

tion is foreseen which can be placed on

piles should the subsoil be unsatisfactory.

Settling and torsion of the foundation

and thereby of the machine as a result of

these vibrations are supposed to be kept

to a minimum through these measures.

To isolate high-frequency structure-

borne noise, some pad materials are also

sometimes used although these are only

slightly elastic. Even with theses precau-

tionary means, however, settling cannot

be strictly ruled out. Besides, inadmis-

sible vibrations can be transferred via the

foundation into the surroundings and may

there affect the plant personnel and the

environment. In extreme cases the vibra-

tions can even be damaging to parts of

the plant building.

In order to prevent these effects it is

necessary that a dynamic uncoupling

be made between the machine and the

building itself by means of an elastic sup-

port. GERB spring units in combination

with Viscodampers® are especially well

suited for this:

•Owingtotheuncouplingwithahigh

vibration-isolating effect between ma-

chine and structure, the subsoil is only

statically loaded. Settling as a result of machine vibrations is ruled out.

ers® provide printing machines with ex-cellent protection against the effects of earthquakes.

•Bymeansofelectronicequipmentthe

printing machine and the foundation can

be monitored giving an indication of the machine’s wear and tear.

•Smallerprintingmachinescanbe

mounted right on a spring supported

steel frame or a spring-cushioned

platform. Finally, it is possible to inte-

grate an entire floor area complete with

spring-mounted presses into the build-

ing structure so that construction cost

is reduced and valuable space is gained

beneath the machines. In all of these

cases the transfer of vibrations into the building is prevented by the spring

support.

•Vibrationmeasurementsofelasti-

cally supported printing machines have

shown that with this kind of support the

acceleration values in the machine are

lower than with conventional support.

Since these reduced accelerations are a

measure of the machine’s wear, one can

simultaneously assume that the lowered

accelerations mean prolonged lifetime of the machine and lower mainte-nance costs.

•Thetransfer of structure borne noise is prevented by the dynamic separa-

tion of the machine from the building

itself. So the noise level caused by the machine is correspondingly reduced in the adjacent rooms.

Spring elements and Viscodampers® are

selected according to the machine data

and the conditions of the surroundings.

The cylindrical coil springs as well as all

parts of the casings are given high-quality

corrosion protection at the factory.

GERB has its own engineering division

for static and dynamic analysis and – if

desired – for the formwork and reinforce-

ment drawings of the foundation includ-

ing bar bending lists.

GERB’s assembly division can independ-

ently carry out the installation of the

spring elements and Viscodampers®.

Preliminary construction measures on site

are therefore unnecessary.
