Those coming will have the opportunity to contribute to a money tree for Oil Patch Chapel Ministries. When Hollas Hoffman retired in 2013 after more than 30 years as a pastor, he and his wife Nelda felt God calling them to serve as chaplains in the oilfields of South Texas. They established Oil Patch Chapel Ministries and became the first oil field chaplains en- dorsed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Since then they have recruited about 60 volunteer chaplains. The current decline in the oil industry has increased the need for ministry to oil field workers. "The telephone calls have increased," Hoffman recently told the Houston Chroni- cle. "As they lose their jobs, we get calls. I get calls from people who just want to talk. You can tell they're crying. I get calls from wives, I get calls from men. Marriage break- ups are fairly common. We've had suicidal calls. We just try to respond to whatever they call about." What keeps a pipeline from flowing? Sometimes the

pipeline is clogged with muck or debris. Sometimes there

is a break in a pipe. But sometimes the only problem is that nothing is going into

the pipeline. That is the problem we are seeking to address here in our associa-

tion with our Church Planting Pipeline. If we are going to see new church starts

come out of the Pipeline, then we must see three things go into the Pipeline: Men

Called by God, Churches Led by God, and People Loved by God.

Mission JourneyMission Journey

Through our 2016 Pastor Essentials Class (see story on page 1), we are continuing to prepare Men Called by God, an emphasis we began last year. This year we are adding a focus: equip-ping Churches Led by God (to start new churches). Jan. 12-14 eight of our pastors and one layman joined me for a Churches Planting Churches training event at the TRBA office. As a part of that training, each of us was challenged to develop our own Church Planting V-I-P Presentation, telling what our vision is for church planting (that’s the “V”), what our personal involvement will be (that’s the “I”), and what our plan is for carrying out that vision (that’s the “P”). We were to develop our presentation for our own church or ministry, so each would be different. The one I developed for Trin-ity River Baptist Association is in the right column of this page. It is a work in pro-gress, but it will give you a good idea of where we are going, how we plan to get there, and what I will personally be doing to help us move forward in that plan.

I wish all of you could have been in that Churches Planting Churches training event. Here are some important “take-aways” from the conference:

The most effective strategy for reaching the world for Christ is church planting.

The most biblical strategy for reaching the world for Christ is church planting.

In the U.S., more than 200 million people do not have a personal relationship with Christ. Since only China and India have total populations larger than this, that makes the U.S. the third largest mission field in the world.

In order to become a church-planting church, a congregation must have a bur-den for lost people, a willingness to step out in faith, a vision for a region, a spiri-tual maturity, a generous spirit, and a kingdom mindset.

The idea of church planting is always met with resistance, but that can be over-come with sharing information, answer-ing objections, time, and prayer.

The co-founders/directors of Oil Patch Chapel Ministries, will tell about their grow-ing ministry to oil field workers at this year’s A Heart for Mis-sions Banquet. The banquet will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Hardin Baptist Church. The TRBA Executive Board will meet at 6 p.m. Special music will be provided by the Hardin Quartet. Cost of the Haidusek-catered fish dinner is $12 and the reservation deadline is Feb. 3. Call 936-336-9232. They established Oil Patch Chapel Ministries and became the first oil field chaplains en-dorsed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Since then they have recruited about 60 volunteer chaplains. The current decline in the oil industry has increased the need for ministry to oil field workers. "The telephone calls have increased," Hoffman recently told the Houston Chroni-cle. "As they lose their jobs, we get calls. I get calls from people who just want to talk. You can tell they're crying. I get calls from wives, I get calls from men. Marriage break-ups are fairly common. We've had suicidal calls. We just try to respond to whatever they call about." The annual A Heart for Missions Banquet is sponsored and led by the TRBA Women’s Missions and Ministries Team.

ended, there were 13. “We put in rush orders for more books and thanked God for the sudden increase,” Williams said. The next day a 14th student enrolled. By the time the class met for its second session, there were 18. “The Lord has surprised us and amazed us,” Williams said. “It is exciting to see how He is calling out men in our area at the same time that He is providing this local, excellent, contextualized training for them right here in Liberty, Texas.”
