Employees are responsible for keeping unnecessary combustible materials from accumulating in the work area. Combustible waste should be “stored in covered metal receptacles and disposed of daily,” according to'OSHAs Hazardous Materials Standard (1910.106)

Tips:

Effective Fire Protection System

q The most important piece of advice for an owner or manager of a plant in terms of fire prevention and control is to comply with the most current local fire codes. It is necessary to conform to the national codes set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the overall governing body on how fire alarm systems must be wired and what basic functions they must perform. However, because the NFPA governs only the minimum requirements, throughout the United States, the local jurisdiction has the authority to augment the basic minimal requirements and to tailor exactly how fire alarm systems work in their area.

q Distributed network fire alarm systems offer a high level of reliability due to their survivability that is, the ability of a system to continue to function, providing early detection and appropriate notification, even when portions of the system are damaged by fire.

q Each distributed piece of the fire alarm system should be located within or adjacent to the area it is protecting. If the emergency damages that portion of the fire alarm system, the remainder of the plant can continue to operate and continue to inform people of the optimal routes for evacuation.

q The intelligent network fire alarm system ultimately improves the ability of people to take the appropriate action under any given emergency conditions.

Case Study

T h e c o m p a n y w a s established in 1988 and the production was commenced in the year 1990. The total work force of the company is 23 including 6 partners, 1 supervisor, 1 lab incharge, 4 skilled workers and 11 unskilled workers. The unit is engaged in manufacturing of 1:1 and 1:2 metal complex dyes. The unit is making around 12 different dyes. CP assessment is carried out for acid red 362 and acid blue 1 5 8 . T h e i n s t a l l e d manufacturing capacity of the plant is 72 MT / year w h i l e t h e c u r r e n t production is 60 MT / year. The sales turnover of the company is Rs. 1.25 Crores / year. The company has undergone a significant modernization program in recent years and has focused on improving energy and water system efficiencies to keep pace with its expansion, with a Cleaner Production assessment of both its facilities. The company has invested about 5.5 Lakh and saved about 11.5 Lakh annually.

Eco-Industrial Park (EIP)- A businesses cooperate with each other and with the local community in an attempt to reduce waste and pollution, efficiently share resources (such as information, materials, water, energy, infrastructure, and natural resources), and help achieve sustainable development, with the intention of increasing economic gains and improving environmental quality. An EIP may also be planned, designed, and built in such a way that it makes it easier for businesses to co-operate, and that results in a more financially sound, environmentally friendly project for the developer.

Our products & services include:

Environmental Lab - Sulphate

Interference: Large amount of interference in Sulphate Analysis will be due to color and Suspended Matter. However, this suspended matter can be removed with the help of Filtrations to some extent. If both are small in comparison with

-2SO , Concentration can be corrected for sample color & 4

Turbidity by running Blanks to which BaCl is not added.2

Along with, Silica is also an Interfering agent in Sulphate analysis which may not precipitate BaSO satisfactorily due to 4

large quantities of Organic material.

In portable water, Sulphate forms insoluble compounds with Barium sulphate under strong acidic conditions. Temperature around 10ºC will not cause appreciable error.

Cleaner Production

Cleaner Production is the continuous application of an integrated, preventive environment strategy towards processes, products and services in order to increase overall efficiency and reduce damage and risk for human and environment.

It can be achieved by Pollution Prevention Techniques including Source Reduction by Good House Keeping and Process Change. Raw Material Change, Better Process Control, Equipment Modification and Change in current Technology can be the best way of Process Change.

Another option for Pollution Prevention is onsite and offsite Recycling or Reuse of the raw material, by-product or waste.

Product Modification is the least option available for Pollution Prevention. This includes better quality of raw material without making the quality change of products.

Cleaner Production can apply by own in any industry. It can be carried out through walk through of product process to know the loop holes in the plant followed by pre assessment for which of the pollution prevention technologies can be applicable. Evaluation of feasibility study is important before implementation.

Plastic Waste to Corrugated Sheets

Appreciable Work – Waste to Wealth

International Waste Research & Technology Centre (IWRTC) is taking good initiatives for Plastic Waste Management. Plastic as a product is now like a regular feature of manufacturing, consumption, and service activities. Plastic is made up of various chemical elements and therefore is regarded as a highly contagious material that does not easily degrade in the natural environment after its usage or utility period.

Plastic bag and bottle waste can be converted to flat and corrugated sheets which can be used for roofing and partition material, a substitute for Asbestos sheets. It is having Good mechanical strength, the sheets are more durable than cement sheets, Insulating effect, the ambient temperature under these roofing sheet is less

0by 5 C in comparison to Asbestos roofing sheets , light weight & easy to handle as well as Good water resistance and antifungal. It is used as a roofing for Godowns, Garages & shades, Partitions for office cabin & room, Shed & Partition at various places like Hospitals, Hotels, Schools & Restaurants, Cost effective alternative with Plywood, Particle Board, Gypsum Board in interiors, Replace wood in manufacturing pallets and Use to enhance decorative appearance.
