•The inhabited areas concentrated in just 5% of Egypt’s total area, presented in the small strip of the Nile valley and some scattered settlements on its sea shores and oases. That caused the over population problem in most of its cities.

• Egypt is one of the most populated countries in Africa and the Middle East. According to the 2006 census, the population of Egypt has sprung up to 72.6 million with a growth rate of 22% each year in the past decade.

From that tables we can see that:-Cairo, the country's capital is the

largest city (7 933 236 persons in 2007). -Then comes Alexandria as Egypt's

second largest city (3 917 082 persons in 2007).

-Egypt's third and fourth largest cities are El- Giza (2 491 991) and Shubra al Khaymah( in El-Qaliobia governorate) (1 019 725).

-El-Minia city is the capital of El-Minia governorate. Its name is derived from the

pharaonic Egyptian name Men'at Khufu.

-El-Minia lies on the west bank of the Nile. It is Known by the locals as "Bride of Upper Egypt. This represents its strategic location in Middle Egypt as a vital link between the

north and the south of Egypt.

The Citadel is one of the world's greatest monuments to medieval warfare, as well as a highly visible landmark on Cairo's eastern skyline
