ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Indian Society of Engineering Geology (ISEG) is a professional and scientific forum comprising members from
diverse but related fields of Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environ-
mental Engineering and Environmental Sciences, representing almost all the leading organizations engaged in various infrastructural and developmental projects in India. J. B. Auden established Engineering Geology in
Geological Survey of India in the year 1945. As the work increased, the need for interaction and bringing the experts under one umbrella was felt. Subsequently, the Indian Society of Engineering Geology was formed and
inaugurated by Dr. K. L. Rao, the then Union Minister of Irrigation and Power on October 15, 1965 at Kolkata. The first President of the society was Dr. D.N. Wadia, the doyen of Indian geology. It is noteworthy that the
society remains not only confined to classical engineering geology but also encourages geotechnical engineering,
soil and rock mechanics, environmental geology, surface and ground water hydrology, mining, explorations, testing and related specializations.
ISEG completed five decades of glorious service to the nation in October 2015 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee
in the same year. The society is affiliated to International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environ-
ment (IAEG) and is known as IAEG India National Group in international forums. It is managed by a council as given at website www.isegindia.org. ISEG has regularly been organizing seminars/ symposia and workshops in
India focusing on varied aspects of Engineering Geology. The main aim of organizing such technical conclaves is to provide a common platform for technical interactions and discussions amongst the best-available professionals
and academicians of our country and abroad engaged in different fields of Engineering Geology and Geotech-
niques. Technical papers are invited from the experts engaged in these fields; the accepted papers will be later on published in the Journal of Engineering Geology – the flagship journal of ISEG. Apart from the above, in all
such conferences, after brain-storming sessions, ISEG compiles and prepares suggestions and recommendations, which guide us in planning upcoming events.
ABOUT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
ISEG proposes to organize a two days International Conference on “Engineering Geological Solutions for
Sustainable Development (EGCON-2017)” on 7th & 8th October, 2017 at New Delhi. Main purpose of this
conference is to provide a platform to discuss and ponder upon recent developments in the field of Engineering Geology, advanced technologies in use for development of infra-projects that are economically viable,
sustainable and environment friendly.
Apart from regular theme-based presentations and lectures by the speakers from different related fields,
EGCON-2017 shall be providing best opportunity to researchers and entrepreneurs in this field to listen and in-teract with the key-note speakers who will share their vast experiences and give insight on most-relevant techni-
cal issues. This international conference will also be a great opportunity for the private developers, consultancy agencies and manufacturers engaged in this field to exhibit their capabilities and develop rapport.
Journal of Engineering Geology, which is a flagship publication of ISEG has completed fifty years of it’s publica-
tion in 2016. This conference is an opportunity to commemorate Golden Jubilee of the journal. All updates w.r.t.
International Conference are available on ISEG websites www.isegindia.org and www.joegindia.com. All are requested to refer the websites mentioned above regarding details of the conference.

I take this opportunity to invite geologists, engineering geologists, geological, geotechnical and civil engineers, academicians, scientists and mining professionals to make technical contributions through
papers and attend the conference. Regular updates and subsequent circulars will be available through ISEG
website www.isegindia.com.
